So who would I need to contact for an engineers report to get the car through NCT?
Is there qualified people out there or can that do every qualified mechanic?
As well: Do i just need to bring the report then to the NCT centre and hand it out to them and they go on test the car?

    Thanks!

Not sure what NCT accept but some insurers accept reports from main dealers or SIMI members.
I think IAEA members are universally accepted. IAEA is a UK professional body but is recognised here.

What's the report for? You won't need one for seat changes or sterribg wheel changes so long as the new parts are installed safely and correctly.

To answer your question, no only a certified engineer can provide an engineers report.

I was told (or heard) that whenever you change something along these parts of the car etc, you automatically need one now?

Not true. A full report is quite expensive you'd be mad to do it without needing it. I don't know exactly what you've done to the car but if it's no more major than seats and a steering wheel send it into the test and see what they say.

aftermarket seat's won't pass the NCT any more, nor will an after market steering wheel (if the car should have an airbag wheel).

i see on some of the modified forums the only way to get a car through with these parts is to get an engineers report to suggest they are fit for use or whatever.

i guess this is because of all the cheap crap quality Chinese knock off seats and steering wheels that are in the modified scene right now.

Thanks for the information. I actually agree with the report itself, if it wouldn't be so expensive.....

for my own safety alone I only use "real" brands and no fakes/replicas. don't wanna risk my or other peoples life by saving a few quid...

The Road Safety Authority are the reason for this. They have stipulated that if a car is modified from standard then any modifications must be fit for purpose. If the NCT tester notices any modifications then they cannot issue a cert until you provide proof that mods are done safely. This has also had impact on disabled drivers / passengers that need to modify cars for access or to allow them to drive.

    Thanks for the information.

It makes sense to me to be honest. Just an extra hassle.

If you compare it with other EU countries... im surprised it took Ireland that long....
