Sat cable won't work unless secondary cable connected

I have an amiko alien STB(although I don't think this is stb related). When I connect the sat cable from my dish(quad lnb) no signal comes through. However when I connect a secondary cable to another stb(skybox f5) the amiko signal works fine. Strange one that I'm struggling to get to the bottom off. Anyone know why this is?

It sounds like you have the power to the lnb on the amiko box turned off, have a look at the antenna settings turn any diseq settings off and turn voltage on for 13\18 volts or to automatic...

Second box is powering the lnb when you connect it together.

Could also be a broken screen (outer mesh) connection on the first cable.. The second grounds the LNB when connected.

Gerry Wicklow's suggestion is the correct one. I hope you haven't connected your cables like the photos show in this thread ...
