Insignia gear change problem

I test drove an 2011 Insignia the other day. I was very happy with everything about the car except the gear changes, especially 2nd gear. It was sometimes difficult to engage especially coming down from 3rd to second. All the other gears were fine.

The dealer said because it was laying up for a few weeks and that they'd grease up the gear linkage and it should be fine, I'm not so sure

    Any advice?

I had an Astra with the same gearbox and it did the same. It happened when the box was cold and went away once the car had warmed up. It would be worth asking them for a long test drive to see if it's the same.

What engine and is it a 6 speed gearbox?
I'm not sure about the insignia but the astra uses cable selectors for the 6 speed and linkage for 5 speed. Either way its not normal, especially on a 2011.

Yeah it's the six speed diesel.

Might do that. Forgot to mention before but i drove another one and 2nd was a bit sticky as well but not as bad as the other one.

Maybe it's the same with them all.

They all should have the F40 gearbox. A lot of them tend to do it. I checked out a few owners forums at the time and second was mentioned on all the complaints. Mine was particularly bad 3rd to 2nd as well.

Try it on a longer drive and there's still no harm mentioning it.

Is the m32 box not used anymore?
I have to adjust the cable on our 6 speed astra every now and the as 4th gets a bit sticky, but once adjusted its like new again.

Used on the smaller engines I think still on the Astra, might be in the smaller petrol Insignias maybe. Not good if they're still using it mind...

My Insignia f40 can be sticky bugger at times, double press clutch and it goes in fine on mine but longer run helps to if it not used to.

Been meaning to change oil in it for a while, oil change in my Astra helped out a fair bit.

I'm not paticularly worried about second being sticky, i'm more worried about it being the start of the gear box or clutch going.

Think I might bring it for a longer run
