Feeling like someone is trying to belittle me.

This quite trivial but is bugging me, I'm not even sure if it's worth talking about but I'd like to hear your opinions on what I should do. So recently I started a college course and at the start of the year I paid 100 euro for supplies.

Occasionally when the supplies that we paid for are being distributed around the class , The Teacher asks me "Did you pay ? " and normally I'll say "Yes of course" even when I say that she still seems to be in disbelief. I don't know what is her problem, is she trying to make little of me ? because it's not a nice thing to do in a room of other people. The person in question is known for a stand offish personality and a abrasive character.

Am I being pedantic and should I just move on ? or should I complain because it has happened on many occasions.

I wouldn't complain while you are in the class, but maybe makes notes of it and make your complaint as you are leaving.

I had an issue with a lecturer and I complained, and lo and behold my summer exam grade was mysteriously low for that class.

Yeah I think I'll take that advice. I'm sure will have a natural bias against me when correcting exams.Or will just be nitpicking with me for the rest of the year.

Do you have a receipt, or have yo signed something to state that you paid your €100? Whether your teacher's disbelief is perceived or not, having the receipt with you would set things straight pretty quickly...

if that is the only thing she seems strange about, it sounds like for whatever reason she has got it into her head that you haven't paid. Maybe the records of payment have been messed up or there was an error.

Next time she asks you this question stay back after class and say that you just wanted to confirm that you did pay and to whom you paid. If, as Mike suggested, you can show the receipt all the better.

It's clearly written in her book, but still says it anyway. I think she doesn't trust me.

What I'd do is nicely go to her and say "Listen, I've heard you asking me a couple of times if I've paid for the supplies. I'd just like to double-check that everything is in order" and get her to show you her book. You didn't say if you've got a receipt but if you have, all the better.

I agree with other posters about approaching in a nice way after class with the receipt, just to 'check everything is in order '. As long as you're not confrontational about it I'm sure it can be cleared up without any adverse effects on your grades.

Could you go to the administration office (if there is one) and check there instead? I don't think you should say anything more to her about it. You've already told her you've paid that should be enough.

The OP could but there's a reason why I advised them to go straight to the course teacher. The problem the OP is having is that every time she hands out supplies, the teacher is asking them if they've paid up. Despite the OP saying "Yes of course" each time, she still keeps asking.

If the OP goes to the teacher in the non-confrontational manner I suggested and has her check the book, what can she say only "Yes, you've paid up". It takes away the grounds for this teacher to be asking the question and does so without waving receipts at them and telling them you've been to admin because of this matter. There's a subtle difference between telling the teacher they're wrong and asking them to check a record for them just to make sure everything's OK.

Ok I understand but if the teacher (who sounds like a bully) asks OP again he/she could just say that "yes I have paid, you can check with administration if you would like. " It might be less intimidating to take this approach.

Are you the only one she asks or is she asking everyone in the class ? If you are the only one I would show her your receipt next time and that should put a stop to it. If she is asking everyone in the class then it is just a case of her not remembering who paid and who didn't pay and who said they paid the last time and who didn't.

Just snap the next time she asks.

Erm, don't swear at your lecturer.

Make a joke of it; tell her she's slipping and that you've paid as you told her before.

I don't think it's anything personal. People just get sets on things. When I was in school there was a girl who's name I just kept forgetting, it was mortifying having to ask her- but it was nothing personal, just my brain!

Its mad that just asking a person a non confrontational question to resolve an issue is such a bizzare concept.

Have you listened out to her in class to see if she has asked anyone else the same? or if her tone when she does get an answer to a question is the same? I wouldnt confront her and make an issue out of it, unless she's done more than just ask - have you paid? - as she could be petty and give you a low grade, if she feels you are causing issues for no reason. If you have a receipt, keep it on you for next time she asks, she might have you mixed up with another person that hasnt paid yet.
