Slow download rate using my own router with Technicolour TC2700

I changed my Technicolour over to bridging mode recently. But my speeds on the wired connection are not good.
Connected direct to my Technicolour, I get 200Mb d/l and 20u/l, which I am happy with.
When I use my router, with the modem in bridge mode, I only get 80d/l and 20u/l.
Any ideas on what settings may need to be tweaked on the router or modem?

Sounds like it might be working at fast ethernet (100Mbps) speeds, not gigabit speeds (1000Mbps).

Try a different ethernet cable. Also, what router are you using?

My net connection tells me I am connected at 1gb.
Router is a linksys wrt 350N

The WRT350N does not have a gigabit wan port, it is 100Mbit.
A WRT350 can route somewhere between 70-80 Mbit/s WAN to LAN so it wouldn't be helped much by a gigabit WAN.

Ah right, what a ****box. I suppose I never had a broadband connection this fast before, so never noticed this limitation. Good explanation though.
Strange that the net connection says connected at 1gb then?

Anyone got thoughts on the best wifi router to get the most out of my 200Mb connection? I dont need any advanced features, just some good speeds.

Spent hours trying to update drivers, uninstall and reinstall my Ethernet card and trying all sorts one afternoon. Then realised I didn't have a gigabit Ethernet card in the laptop I was using.

And being honest, the laptop wasn't that old at the time, just thought I'd never need anything that could handle speeds anywhere near what we get now.

Yeah but in this case, I do get 1gb connected direct to the modem, so knew the laptop was ok

    Because it is.

The switch on the rear of the router is Gigabit. The WAN port isnt (and the CPU couldnt handle one if it was). Your computer only reads the speed of the link its on, that is from the integrated switch on the router to its NIC. If you have two wired units they can transfer files at 900Mbps or all day long, just not out to internet.

I know, but our issues are similar, it was my Ethernet card, your WAN port.
