Parking across driveway ...

Is there anything more annoying or selfish?

I arrived at my house with my boyfriend this afternoon to see a car parked across the driveway. We are completely blocked out of my house. He is now forced to park on a pay and display street because of this.

My boyfriend knocked into the neighbour and politely asked her to move the car, and he was informed "my daughter parked there, she's gone to Amsterdam and won't be back to Monday". She was incredibly rude about this and not contrite at all, I know it wasn't her who parked there but could have at least had some sympathy and apologized on her daughter's behalf.

Has this happened anyone before? What can be done??

Would be a shame if some 'scumbag kids' let the air out of the tyres during the night.

Call the Gardai. If it's completely blocking a driveway, I think they have the power to tow it away.

It would alright, would take even longer to get the car shifted then

It's illegal to block a driveway, call the Gardaí and they'll have the car towed away.

She'll then have to pay storage fees and a towing fee to get her car back

If you are in Dublin city, call the clampers, they are always glad of some work.

Not saying you so do this OP, but fire, burn the car with fire. That will learn them ;)

Serious though, this happened to me couple years ago where someone actually parked in my drive, they were attending a party down the road, so I simply trapped them in, met the lads and went to the pub... Very sheepish the following afternoon asking me to move the car. Took my time.

Call the Gardaí, it's a criminal offence, they probably wont criminally charge her (enforcing the law isn't something we like to do in this country) but at the least will have it towed and impounded especially if it is going to be there for a few days. If it's impounded it's going to cost her €100 per day plus something like €170 for the initial impounding fee.

The car keys are probably still in the house. Your neighbour sounds like a complete biatch.

And then people laugh at us for driving around in tractors with bale lifters on the back all the time . . .

Something similar happened to me when i was home for Xmas with a Polish reg Audi. Car was there for nearly 36 hours....plenty of time to organise rubber gloves and a few tubs of Vaseline the first night....lets put it this way i had the last laugh as he tried to clean it off the windows so that he could move the car. Very angry lad....wanted to know who damaged his car...wanted the cops to do something.....luckily for me the cops asked why he was parked infront of my driveway and told him he was lucky that the car was still there and with 4 wheels on it.

This used to be a recurring problem for me when I was living near thomond park in Limerick. On match days or concert days at least 50% of the time someone would be parked across the drive. What I would do was inform the gardai and have the car towed away. This would cost the person a few hundred euro but that wasn't my problem. Had a few angry and panicked knocks on the door but I told em to get in contact with the gardai. One time the person threatened violence and the gardai met him at the yard where his car was an booked him for it. I still have a laugh about it to this day.

Yes call the guards, get it moved.
I would have advised informing the neighbour beforehand, but as they were rude to you dont bother.

Could you put your car against hers and apply power until her car moves to block her mothers house?

I certainly wouldn't stand for it, would be a call to the Gardaí.

What kind da of car is it... If it's a small car.. Hook a chain up.. And if you have a tow bar... Pull it out of the way.

That's both annoying and selfish, but plenty of things are both more annoying and more selfish. Your problem ranks alongside being forced to listen to other people's loud music on public transport, or having to put up with a tardy waiter in a wine bar.

It's Friday evening. I would try not let this kind of thing get me too worked up, if i were you.

Dont touch the car, you could be done for damage, even if you did not cause it. let the guards handle it.

Its a bit more than that when you have to pay to park your car elsewhere.

OP I would go to your neighbour again and ask her if she has the keys If she refuses to cooperate I would go straight to the guards or clampers and report it

Nah, she had her chance. Feign ignorance when they come looking for it.

I'd hook up my toe rope and pull that car out of the way - car will be pulled easily enough with the handbrake on. Mightn't do it much good mind you.

Tell your neighbour she has 10 minutes to move her daughter's car or you are calling the cops, and they will take care of it and it will cost her daughter about 450 euro.

And cop on to herself! Park outside her mother's if she wants to, but don't take the piss out of the neighbours.
Why would she take the keys with her? Just do the above and see how fast it is moved.
Unless you did something to the mum to piss her off?!

OP, get Liam Nielson to give your neighbours a ring on the phone, that'll frighten em.

The mother in law regularly comes home to find some selfish git parked in front of her driveway. The worst part is that when she catches them in the process most of them become very belligerent and in a few cases quite abusive as if it is their divine right to park wherever the fcuk they want. Only a small few apologise in any way.

Call the Gardai and tell them there is suspicious activity going on in your next door neighbours house, mention drugs and guys with hoodies coming up to the door and such and how a car has been abandoned across someones driveway

Don't do this unless you want to be a worse sort of person than someone who parks across driveways.

Don't bother giving her notice. Just called them or the clampers.
Had it happen me a few years back, called the clampers who were more than happy to send a truck around.

I've just moved to a place a few doors up from a Chinese restaurant, nearly constantly have people blocking the driveway while they wait on their takeaway. Irritating!

It's childish but the first chance I got, I'd park across her driveway in retaliation.

How incredibly ignorant! Personally I wouldn't touch the car (well, maybe the vaseline job...)

I'd definitely talk to the guards about it.

The Gardai won't do anything. It's pig ignorant but it's parked on a public street. Maybe if your car was blocked in.
