Upgrading to GTX 970 Graphics Card

Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card on my existing computer and get something along the lines of a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4GB and was hoping for some advice.

My existing set up is:

I think I will have to upgrade the PSU to use this card and was thinking of getting a Silverstone ST85F-P 850W Strider Plus Power Supply.

I've never upgraded a PC or built my own computer so I'm just wondering if there is anything I'm missed or advice you would give?

My reasoning behind getting the 850w CPU is that I might add a second GTX 970 at a later stage.

Considering I'm also upgrading my GPU to a GTX970, and that exact model of card, and have been posting about it recently....

Your current supply is fine for a single 970, though it may not have the necessary connections. Some 970's need a single 8 pin, or two 6 pins, few even require an 8pin and 6pin, but unless you were overclocking the **** out of it it would never need anywhere near that power.

Your motherboard doesn't support Sli (doesn't even have a 2nd pci-e lane), so to go dual 970's realistically you'd be looking at a new board, processor on top of a second GTX970.

With that in mind I would just get a €45-50 euro PSU for now like a Corsair Cx500 or EVGA 500B White.

Got my hands on a G1 Gaming 970 myself today, looking like its a hell of a card! Though to be honest, I would suggest upgrading the PSU if you're going for it, its one of the more power hungry 970s on the market.

Got the Palit Jetstream version today. The drivers are taking an eternity from any of the sites, everything else downloads fast and speedtest has me clocked at 200mb/s

Anyone else having issues with the nvidia site?

Nvidia site working fine for me, latest drivers took me 4 minutes there.
