i got my horizon box today and would like to hook it up to my netgear as i dont see any download speed increases, only upload speed. even though i went from 150mb to 240mb. im getting about 38mb download on speedtestnet

i put it the epc3925 into bridge mode because of the thread about it but i see none on how to do it with the horizon. not smart in all this so a guide is neccessary for me to be able to do it

Call upc tomorrow. They can transfer the internet connection back to the cisco. The horizon box cannot be bridged.

There is no bridge mode functionality on the horizon box.

what i want to do is connect my netgear to the horizon box so the netgear can emit the wifi signal. that is bridging yeah? im not entirely sure as im not good with this stuff

The horizon box can't handle Netflix. Old box and slower speeds = constant 1080. Horizon = going through all resolutions. So annoyed!!

That's not bridging, that's setting up your netgear as an access point.

So what is it I need to do to get my net gear to be the access point?

Basically disable DNS,firewall, nat on your netgear, give it a fixed IP address and connect a lan port from netgear to lan port on horizon. Configure WiFi on netgear also.

i connected them and it seems to be working. upc speedtest is saying 25mb download as opposed to 38ish when i had just the horizon. ill do as you said above as see what happens.

You need to go to myupc and opt out of UPC's wifree

done that. now waiting on it to finally disable so i can then turn off the wifi.

really not happy only receiving 30mb max with the netgear connected. i got 70mb download when i connected wired to the horizon box. i would love that on wifi.

When you get your wifi sorted you might find it useful to try something like inssider to see what wifi channels are around you and maybe change your wifi channel and see if it ups your speed.

i use inssider. always going from channel 1 to 11 and back every few weeks. neighbours wifi signals seem to change alot.

doubt ill ever be happy as i never got past 40mb wireless and im on 240mb package now and have been on 100+ for almost 2 years. gotten the netgear which helped only with reducing dropouts :(

Have you checked to see what the wifi card in your laptop is capable of? Is it "g" or "n"?

It's a Lenovo Z580. I know the card is **** cod. searched before but I'm sure it's N. No other device ever got over 40mb either. My ps4 is doing well to get 20mb. Signal isn't even bad. Does be 90% minimum on the ps4.

Not really a problem but It doesn't feel good getting 30mb on a 240 package.

It really can be down to the chip. I've seen new laptops only able to pull 20Mbps when an 18mo old iPad does 45-60.

Same goes for my own kit, ultrabook 65 but phone 105Mbps. Thats on 5Ghz.

If it bothers you I'd buy an intel .11AC minicard from amazon.

i may consider that. but i receive similar speeds on every other device too. thanks!
