Yesterday a friend of mine had efibre installed. No complaints there at all it went fine.

However my friend is a lady in her sixties and a complete non teccie.  The installer simply told her that the numbers she required were on the bottom of the router and was gone.

Of course she had no idea how to connect her laptop to the new network etc etc.

She rang Eircom support and they asked her to ring on her mobile in case they needed the line and this cost her nearly a tenner.

Not everyone getting broadband is a teccie and this sort of installation can leave a non teccie person pretty helpless.

Would it not be possible for Eircom to produce some sort of basic leaflet guide for this type of person which would explain that any previous wifi network was now gone and a simple guide to joining the new network.

The leaflet could also explain the need to also reconnect other items such as wifi printers, internet radios etc.

    Hi dub45
We have had this suggested to us recently and have passed on that suggestion internally. There is a complete how to section online here
which does go through set up procedures, but it would certainly be useful for new users, setting up initial connection,  to have some instruction included.

There isn't much us in an online link when the person has no connection?  Surely it is not that difficult for a company like Eircom to appreciate that a huge proportion of people out there are not teccies and will need some basic guidance in these matters.

And it isnt just about new users.  An existing network is being removed plain and simple.  People are left in a situation where things just don't work anymore particularly now where people have so many more items connected by wifi it is not just a matter of plugging in stuff and getting back to normal.
