Installs are happening this week. It would be interesting to see speed tests posted here to give boardsies a flavour of what to expect. So, let's see those results :D.

    Great idea for a thread!

Can't wait to see what we've all been waiting 18 months for! ;)

I think someone, elsewhere in this forum, posted that Sky are using eircom's backhaul for their VDSL. Therefore one would expect there to be no difference in speeds between Sky and eircom VDSL.

Not necessarily. Sky will buy a certain amount of capacity off of Eircom Wholesale. The question is will they buy enough capacity?

Also they will have their own routing gear and their own arrangements for international backhaul. So no guarantee they will perform the same, not at all.

Just look at the awful congestion problems they had when they launched ADSL. It was actually where they were using Eircom backhaul that they seemed to have the most problems.

Hopefully it will be different this time, but they certainly don't have a good track record.

That's very good I'm about 550m from the cab and getting an average of 49-50meg.

For 500m thats very very good. Is it a new cab? If so you may see a dropoff when crosstalk increases.

There was never a problem at 12:52pm. 19:00 to 23:30 was when the fun started:mad: I'd be very reluctant to use sky as my ISP tbh.

I never experienced this when I had Sky but I know it was a rampant issue alright.

I never experienced this when I had Sky but I know it was a rampant issue alright.

It seemed to depend on the type of exchange you were connected to.

If you were connected to an exchange with BT DSLAMS in it and thus were a Sky/BT LLU customer, there didn't seem to be any issues.

If you were on a non LLU exchange, then you were using pure Eircom resold ADSL and thus that seemed to be where the issues arose. It looked like Sky didn't purchase sufficient backhaul capacity from Eircom.

No, that wasn't the problem in my case, my exchange was LLU that's what had sky so puzzled.

I was on an LLU exchange alright, eventually started having issues as per my long thread about it on here somewhere!

Happy with Vodafone now but also happy to see Sky has their act together in terms of a Fibre offering.

So far we've yet to see anyone near 100/20!

I expect we will, I really don't expect to see these early speed tests being any different then Eircoms given they are using the same gear.

The question I have is will you continue to get this good performance in 3 or 4 months time when lots of more people are connected.

The congestion problems Sky suffered when they first entered the Irish market with ADSL2+ only emerged after a few months after lots of people le signed up and it was clear sky hadn't sufficient back haul in place.

Sky have a lot to prove yet IMO.

That's it exactly. Hopefully they'll provide a decent service.
