Makes the whole drug testing a joke, marijuana is banned, coke isn't

It's a joke- should be stripped of title IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

Dana won't appreciate this one bit. They put a lot of faith in him with the direct sponsorship and him being front and center with the Reebok deal. He reminds me a lot of Mayweather, supremely talented but thoroughly unlikeable.

Cocaine isn't really performing enhancing. Unless it's done directly before the fight, and even then it would only really sharpen you mentally and would probably be physically detrimental in a drawn out slugfest.

Sounds like you've forgotten cocaine is illegal

He is a disgrace IMO, whatever about fighters testing for marijuana, cocaine is a different ball game altogether.

For a champion to test positive for something like this will be hugely damaging for integrity of UFC

    http://m.uk.ufc.com/news/UFC-Statement-on-Jon-Jones?utm_campaign=UFC&utm_medium=social&utm_source=multiple&utm_content=1420585058

    STATEMENT FROM THE UFC:

“We support UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ decision to enter a drug treatment facility to address his recent issue. While we are disappointed in the failed test, we applaud him for making this decision to enter a drug treatment facility. Jon is a strong, courageous fighter inside the Octagon, and we expect him to fight this issue with the same poise and diligence. We commend him on his decision, and look forward to him emerging from this program a better man as a result.”

STATEMENT FROM DANA WHITE, UFC PRESIDENT

“I am proud of Jon Jones for making the decision to enter a drug treatment facility. I’m confident that he’ll emerge from this program like the champion he truly is.”

Couldn't believe what I was reading there; they don't help themselves sometimes; if this happened to a unranked fighter they would be long gone

he will do anything to dodge gus!

edit: they have been sitting on this for a month ffs

I think he's been caught doing it and had no choice but to enter rehab publicly before the story broke, no way on earth would a guy with his personality and arrogance just head into rehab of his own accord

Oh I agree it's damaging for the sport, just that my stance is that cocaine isn't particularly performance enhancing in a sport like MMA. There shouldn't be an asterisk next to the DC fight, he still won fair and square.

Dana's weasel statement is also quite illuminating. Sets a benchmark for what marquee fighters can get away with, expected something much stronger from him.

Next in the news: "Ronda Rousey murders a baby in cold blood". Dana's response: "I am proud of Ronda for entering California State Penitentiary to straighten out her issues".

just another ufc toe rag, bunch of morons. Hope this crushes this stupid fad for good.

Soon as that McGregor fella gets done we can all put this ufc white back where it came from.

Marijuana isn't banned out it comp, like coke wasn't here.
Coke and marijuana are both banned during comp. Which is why Diaz/Riddle etc got into bother. Both drugs are treated the exactly the same.

If he test positive in fight night the decision would have been overturned.

It's an analgesic. Which brings an obvious benefit, and that's the reason it's banned during comp, same as with prescription painkillers.

Talk about overreaction in here. It's some coke, who cares.

I'm a DC fan, but think of the tantrum he threw when he read Dana Whites statement.

There is no asterix. It was an out if competition test late last year. The NSAC knew and let the fight ago ahead as it's no benefit out of comp.

For pure entertainment I love the uproar Jones causes. Feel a little sorry for him, because he has to deal with the ****storm coming his way. Won't someone please think of the children!!

Also on the UFC's statement and the whole 'rehab' thing. What do you expect from either Jones or the UFC? They are doing exactly what anyone else would do in their situation

Dying to hear the thoughts of the Diaz brothers on this matter.

    Exactly.
Anybody playing the high ground card here is delusional. And pretending Dana's reaction was sincere in order to feint disgust is ridiculous.

It doesn't affect his performance or fighting or give him any advantage (if anything it would negatively affect his performance) so who cares what he does on his own time tbh, lots of things are illegal, it's not like he killed somebody.

How do they count as in competition? Like How long before a fight?

Dana's normally a straight shooter, if it was a mid or low card fighter he would have called them out publicly and given them a verbal dressing down.

His biggest nightmare is probably a prominent belt holder like Jones or Velasquez downing tools in an incident like this and decamping to Bellator for big bucks. Many good fighters of any given division would follow them in an eventuality like that just for the chance to knock off the top dog. The UFC business model is vulnerable and the power of Viacom to headhunt top guys changes the way Dana treats top fighters. Jones is being treated with kid gloves.

A potential GOAT would be signed up for Bellator within the week and others in the division would follow.

That's just not true. Show me where Dana gave anyone a dressing down for being stung for weed, or a DUI, or domestic violence, or any of the multiple PED stings. The UFC statement on all those occasions will match up with their one from today.

Sometimes they don't even comment on them nevermind act in a disciplinary manner, but considering Jones's profile they obviously had to

Thiago Silva was sent packing unceremoniously though.

I dont mean to sound judgemental but I personally think cocaine is one of the worst drugs on the planet, for what it does to people etc, but at least it wasn't some sort of PED he tested positive for. The UFC is still riddled with the issue, even fighters on TRT, where the dosage of testosterone can be manipulated to that its higher than the average natural male, how thats ignored is beyond me, they want a drug free sport but allow TRT.

but ye cocaine is a no go for any pro athlete, he gets paid enough money to have some cop on to know not to do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭Easy Rod

Jones is an idiot but all this faux outrage is unnecessary. Ufc will do what's best for themselves, obviously, make no bones (pardon the pun) about it, they would fire him if it wouldn't cost them millions.

The test on fight night is in competition. So if it's still in his system then it's an in competition positive result. Even though the traces will hang around long after the effects wear off.
Guys who smoked weed 6 weeks before a fight got popped "in-competition"

Those two situations are hardly comparable. Much more in line with Diaz getting stung for marijuana than attempted murder, no?

TRT hasn't been allowed for almost a year.

Nick Diaz got banned for a year for testing positive for hash in 2012. That was the 2nd time though. On his first offence he still got a 6 month ban.

Chances of Jones getting any kind of ban for cocaine?

    Crucify him!!!! :D:D

The guy is a genius in the ring. He has his flaws, we all know that. I couldnt care less about them when I get to see the true brilliance he brings to the world of fighting once he steps in the ring.

If you knew about the in-comp/out-comp difference between Diaz and Jones, why dud you ask if he'd be banned?

Statement from DC. Short and sweet.

"I am aware of Jon's test, and if there is anything to say it is this: there are a lot of people you impact, so please let's get it together. Good luck on your rehab!"

I don't know, does testing positive for a non performance enhancing drug really make you a disgrace? Lots of people you personally know have probably taken cocaine at some point in their life, would you immediately label them as disgraces?

I don't see anything to be outraged about other than when he inevitably milks it for all its worth when he finishes rehab

Funny as fcuk here, the exact moment Rogan finds out

After hearing what Dana said " That's a good thing to say, i'd like to talk to him on the phone, find out what he really thinks.....We'll have an interesting conversation that i won't talk to you people about"

Really think UFC should come down hard, Jones only trains during fight camps and obviously parties hard out of camp, not the ideal image. He mentioned that he will train year round after this fight, seems someone told him he needs to clean up his out of comp attitude.

Couple of things, The test was in camp which means he obviously can't clean up for fight camps now, and his statement in the post fight about not caking coffee when he had an energy problem he instead went out in the crowd and signed some crap for fans and they gave him the energy needed. Wonder if he just met his dealer !
