Quick synopsis: I bought a second hand car from a dealer in Nov, to date I am yet to receive the log book and have the car transferred into my name. I have been getting excuse after excuse from the dealer and at this stage I just want to go legal. Do I have to inform him I'm doing that or can I just get onto a solicitor now and send a letter out?

Have you checked www.motortax.ie to see if there have been any changes in the last 3 months?

If you haven't already, you should tell the dealer you will be going legal if the problem is not resolved in x amount of days. Might pull the finger out then.

Has the dealer claimed to have sent the vlc to shannon?

No that is still showing no changes. Its very hard to get through to the dealer, managed to get in touch with him this morning and he said the ownership would be sorted out by lunchtime today but nothing has happened and I'm just fed up now with chasing it.

Does the op actually legally own the car at this point in time ?

If not how does this stand with the his insurance company ?

Go here https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/menu.do?page=offline, Download the form RF134 print it out and send it off yourself. You'll have to get it signed by a Garda. Maybe attach a note saying the seller wouldn't send on the tax book for you.
