Where do you rank it in the echelon of TV? I think it's in the all time top 5 American sit-coms, maybe top 3.

What's your favourite episode? Mine was the episode where Rachel sees the trouble that Ross went to for her Graduation when they're watching old home videos and then goes over to kiss him. Perfect, perfect TV.

And will you watch it again from start to finish?

Will you be watching Friends on Netflix? 53 votes

With all the repeats on Ch 4 and Paramount Comedy down through the years, id say ive seen them all many times over. Most likely ill go with something I haven't seen.

I would call it a great show, right up there with the best American Comedies. It never got the respect it deserved.

Main characters, support characters, story arcs, recurring jokes, writing - all top quality. Anytime it dipped in quality the writers stepped up and took it back.

It's not a show I would sit down and watch in sequence, but I enjoy watching the odd episode on Comedy Central.

People rave about Frasier, but when Niles and Daphne got together that show was finished. On the contrary, Ross and Rachel's constant on/off relationship got more entertaining as the show went on. PS They were on a break!

Don't have Netflix, but i assume Seinfeld is on there as well?

I remember first when it came onto Ch4 first, afaik it was on at 10pm, we were all hooked & then RTE2/NET2 got it then.

I remember seeing that ep in a rundown on ComedyCentral afaik in top 5,

It's the one where she had a huge nose before the op & Chip the boyfriend didnt turn up, Chandler turned up in his Miami Vice suit & his Flock of Seagulls haircut afaik, Ross had a crazy moustache look as well & don't get me started on Monica & her 1/2 hamburgers

That's what i remember of the ep, but the 2 best ep i remember was:

The One With The Rumor: when she was with Brad Pitt, hilarious!

    The One With The Embyros:
When a simple challenge escalates into a full blown contest and a battle of the appartments begins, not forgetting who the tvguide was issued to Ms Chanandler Bong & Rachel forgetting what Chandler's job was, totally hilarious:D

But now same here, i watch the odd one as its on TV3+3e afaik as well.

But i found Frasier a lot later on & was a smart show & sharply written & can remember a lot more ep than Friends.

But as you said when Daphne & Nilesgot together, it sadly did run out of steam in the 9th season & there was rumour that they were gonna get their own show, so it would have been a spin off from a spin off :P

David Hyde Pierce/Niles was the real star of the show with his witty retorts & wacky mannerisms, pity he didnt get the recognition he deserved, now mostly on broadway afaik.

It's another medium on which I will choose not to watch it. You can only see episodes a number of times before getting sick of it.

The one where Ross debates whether to make a move on his hot cousin....and then goes for it. Brilliant!

I've seen all the episodes so many times i would never choose to watch it if I had other options. But i still watch it if I'm changing through the channels and it's on or if I'm on a plane and it's on the entertainment system.

Frasier had 3 mediocre years and was excellent in its final season and returned to the levels of the first 7 seasons.

Niles and Daphne getting together also coincided with a lot of writers leaving which probably had more to do with the drop in standards than Niles and Daphne getting together.

Friends was good in its earlier years but turned more into a soap rather than sitcom the more it went on. In my opinion It was really a show for women mainly and I'd put good money on it that if the cast of Friends had looked like the cast of Frasier/Seinfeld it wouldn't have been anywhere near as successful as it was. It had a young good looking cast and got a lot of media attention because of this.

Friends is like Coca Cola. You probably like it and will drink it if it's there, but if a shop put up a sign saying they now sell Coke, you aren't going to say Oh My God, I need to buy 15 bottles of the stuff.

You're just so used to it being everywhere that it's actually weird to have somewhere not showing it

As well as the writers, they also lost David Angell one of the creators in the 9/11 attacks.

But Niles & Daphne also reminded me of Moonlighting when David & Maddie got together in their 5 seasons & then David's brother got involved, confused things.

But let us regale on a classic ep here

Matt LeBlanc really is excellent throughout the whole series. Should have really got an award.

Love the episode where Rachel and Monica lose the flat to Joey and Chandler.

Is it true that Matt paid for his acting, cos of a HP Sauce ad?
glad he won an award for Episodes, can't remember if it was an emmy/globe?

I always thought Matthew Perry was - by far - the best actor on the show. The general consensus Ive seen online over the years would tend to agree.

I thought David Schwimmer was the best; the physical comedy he did on Friends was brilliant; quite apart from the character of "Ross" and his interactions with the other characters, when Schwimmer was on screen alone some of the scenes were comedy gold.

That episode where he got stuck in the leather pants? Come on!

Have to admit that although I started this thread Ive yet to watch a single episode yet on Netflix. Perhaps Im in the "I was a fan but I watched it too many times on E4, so I'll give it a miss on Netflix" camp after all.

I've seen a lot of episodes but I was only old enough to watch the final few series and understand what was happening. I never watched it in order so yeah, I'm gonna watch it through on Netflix.
