To do a proper job, I would suggest using cidrs - I would also AI on days 2 and 3 as opposed to 4/5 days.

then the bull can be let out.

don't leave the string too long on the ciders' especially if they are in the shed as the others will lick at them and pull them out.....

presuming its not your first time with this system how do you find conception rates.... what costs involved

First time doing this.Should be ok, c. 400kg. This is a bunch of April/may 13 calves too small this spring and will be sold in the Autumn. Always observe for 3 weeks and pg remainder in Spring in the field.

Rep in lic very enthusiastic about cidr route. You can re use coils over all stock for second round but leave out the shot of pg and achieve a reasonable synching of repeats whilst not jeopardising any pregnancies from first round

Interesting. At what stage would you insert the used CIDR.

Not sure on this now but the neighbour used to reuse coils also but he stopped as the concentration of whatever is in them has been reduced from what it was previously, was a few years back this came up but that was the jist of the conversation I think. Had the rep any figures or research on this stretch?

I asked our vet about it a while back and he said the same, that the concentration had gone down and would no longer work effectively. Disease was another he mentioned but I'd say he was grasping at straws at that stage. I've found with synching heifers and cows they are a complete wAste unless used in conjunction with a good fertility lick.

Talking to an AI man, he brings home all used CICR's to use on his own herd, includes pedigree Sims with embryo transfer work. Scrubs clean with Savlon.Says they fine.

We used wash in Savlon, wrap in tin foil for reuse

No difference in conception rates between the different programs in maiden heifers have used both. You would expect to get 80/90 % in day 2 and 3 and just pick up any stragglers on day 4-5 . Hugh difference in price if your doing big numbers . 100% think ciders are the best product for use in sync cows but in my opinion I think they are an unnecessary expense when sync fertile heifers

Priced synch costing c€45 per heifer with 2xai.

Bought a Hereford bull over the phone instead €1800

May calve may sell don't know yet. If their not on calf I've no choice.

If I calve the last thing I want is weaned calves at this time of year. Can't use AA as the smart alecs will beat me down in price claiming their Jex. White head and Hex on card is what I want

i started ai on heifers 6days ago and 9 of 14 served

have a vesectomised bull with them

first time using one-should have used one years ago

have one with cows-only 3 left to submit

Hope he doesn't reuse them on client farms and charge full price :o

Reduced amount of Progesterone over time in the CIDR.

Wear gloves if handling if you guys don't want any reduction in the viability of your little swimmers :D

Is the pg on day 8 necessary or are you using it as precaution?

    Friesian teaser Im guessing?

Have heard they are best to use as very active. Neighbour uses them, said they are grand in the first year but can't be managed second year

the conversation never got into that level of detail. the man himself has used that program on his own farm in nz and has a number of clients using successfully here.

with heifers here going onto bullock/silage ground a compressed period of ai is essential... have used the 7 day observation /single shot pg here but its still a 10 day effort. only run a vas bull with them .

Don't know. It's the belt and braces method I use when I want to bring animals bulling, say the ones that should have been served after 3 weeks AI and still haven't shown.
