    How's things,

I have full cover on my car and am wanting to get a Van (Transit crew cab) to use as band transport and also to use myself for general personal stuff, Won't be commercially taxed, will be private tax.
I am wondering is there a possibility (or has any one got) of putting the van on the same policy as my car??

I won't need it commercially insured just private like my car so I wonder if I can add a van to my policy?.

I'll be ringing insurance company during the week but if they say no then doesn't mean other insurer won't so thought I'd check on here to see what ye guys think / know?

    To note:
The tax on van will be private tax like my car
Insurance needed on van would not be commercial, just private insurance like my car (if that is possible for van) I think it is from previously driving only a van but long ago so cannot remember if it was Commercial or private insurance.

    Cheers

Van's are always on commercial policies and you have to make sure it has social domestic and pleasure use included. For transporting band equipment you'll need commercial insurance anyway. You'll need to tax it private.

It's nearly impossible to have 2 cars on the same policy here so you'll need separate policies for both the car and van, some companies might mirror you're private NCD onto a commercial policy.

The fact you want it to transport band equipment is going to cause you alot of hassle tbh, its something that insurers do not want anything to do with, particularly for a brand new policy.

You cannot have a van and car on the same policy, they are different policy types for the different vehicle so one does not cover all.

You cannot insure a van/crew cab as a private motor vehicle, dunno where you are getting that idea from.

All you can do is hope that an insurer will give you some level of introductory bonus for a new commercial policy. As I said though, the fact you want to use it to transport band equipment primarily is going to be an issue.

The idea comes from having a van only, about 10 years ago (used just for domestic and pleasure - Not business) Which I had to state when taking out the policy, told em that i needed it as have a horse and wanted van as needed space for bales hay etc and I vaguely remember commercial insurance and regular insurance coming into the equation.
Now that was ten years ago and maybe I have it all wrong and am imagining that was said. I cannot 100% remember that's why I'm checking here :)

Basically trying to figure out best option for band transport (gig bout once / twice a month) and either get band van and thought maybe add to insurance which sounds like is not going to happen or take out new policy and band covers van costs.

I also still have horse and be handy to have something bigger than estate car so maybe trade in car for a Crew cab van and just get the commercial insurance on van and main use of van will be social domestic and pleasure as it will be my daily driver,
and see what insurance companies offer and say about my music gear.

    Cheers for the replies
