Join as many clubs as you can, that's the best way and if one meet up group doesn't suit then join another one.

    What interest do you have?
Night classes in local schools etc should be starting up. Check them out online theres loads of choice.

You could join the gym on your own and see how things go. People are generally welcoming and places love new clients.

    Good luck

Do you have any hobbies? Where are you based?
If you take up a new hobby you'll met loads of people. I met some great peop when I took up kitesurfing about 12 years ago and with cycling recently I have meet some great people

All of those seem solitary activities. Is there something else you would try that involves a group? Even a gym group is a bunch of people doing solitary things together - so it's not a great way to interact with people.

What's near you? Any cooking classes? Wine tasting? Musical societies?

i hear u man, it can be hard to meet new friends the older you get.
your lucky in one way... your in dublin, not rural ireland
you dont get on with any work colleges?
there are some good meetups such as learning to surf, a friend of mine joined that one and made some mates.
Try to look for opportunities wherever you go.
Best of luck! what music are u into btw?

If you're in Finglas and like animals you could volunteer a couple of hours of your time to a large rehoming centre there that has over 200 volunteers - a great way to meet people and do something worthwhile with your time.

i wouldnt say they are too bad
are you any good at guitar OP? there is a local club in my area that organises meetups in pubs where i am, basically open jam sessions. Id imagine there would have to be something like that near you. I dont even play anymore but go along every so often anyway.
cycling - join a club. try a beginner group that may stop for coffee somewhere along their cycle, easier to chat
gym- well can be solitary, depends on the people. just ask someone to spot you and chat away to them.
