Hello, I'm looking to buy a second hand baler so I can do my own work. I bale about 500min bales of silage and the same of straw. I have a NH 7840 which will be driving the baler and was looking at the NH 648 type balers. I am looking to spend around 5-6k. I also would like a baler that makes a good solid bale. I would also like the option of net and twine, I also usually do my own servicing and minor repairs so would like a baler that is easy enough to work on. Thanks for any help or info.

Krone 1250 here very simple machine. Keep the grease in here that's it. Only prob we've had is the oiler on her but apart from that a few bearings on chamber is al . Ran off 100hp.
About 50k bales on our . Did a lot of work in her early yrs 10k bales of silage plus straw. Only doing 1500-2000 inc straw for last 10 yrs.
2nd hand ones are handy enough picked up. If I was you I would prefer buy from a dealer

JD 575 or 578 are great balers. Don't really wear. Only weak point would be shafts on the rollers. 7840 would drive either pretty comfortably.

Is there any real advantage between belt and roller balers? I don't want any fancy vairo chamber or anything of that sort?

I've no experience whatsoever of belt balers. TBH I'd say all fixed chamber roller balers would do a good job if set up correctly.

So a welger or a JD would be my best 2 options? Anything to look out for in particular? I'd say a Krone would be pushing the budget..
