I've got a dodgy ballcock and value which won't turn off when the ballcock goes up. (Even lifting it won't close it). It's a bottom entry one.

So I've turned the water off in the hot press while I don't need water.

Just about to call a plumber to fix it come can I still use the heating (Gas) as probably be tomorrow before he arrives?

    Thanks

Yes as long as it's only the water to the ballcock you've turned off.

    Thanks for reply.

I've turned off all the water to toilets and taps as can't turn off each toilet.

Showers work off a tank in the attic while taps work tank in hot press from what I believe.

Can turn the water back on for an hour or so as toilet doesn't fill that fast and turn off when I don't need it.

    Just annoying.

Perhaps it would still be OK to have it running even if the mains is turned off, so long as you have no leaks on the heating system that was depending on constant mains feed to keep up water pressure. NOT a good situation. I am assuming it not a combi boiler.

Not sure what a combi boiler is

Bolier is a ideal mini gas boiler

i've 3 buttons on the control.

1 for upstairs rads, 1 for downstairs and 1 for water

Combi boiler gives you instant hot water, rather than indirectly through a copper cylinder.
