If I was to consider bringing breach of contract proceedings against someone I work for, roughly I much should I budget for in terms of legal expenses and court costs? Would I be liable for the defendants costs if I lose? Are we talking on average over 5k, over 10k etc?

It really depends. Ring a few solicitors in your area and ask for quotes. Ifbit is an employment matter or an hnpaid debt of less than 15k, expeft to pay less than 5k unless its highly complicated. Otherwise it could be more. You can get costs awarded against you if you lose or have he other side pay some of yours if you win except in some types of case, for example, an unfair dismissals case.

Thanks, it's over approximately €4k which was due to be paid to me during remainder of a short term contract, my employer terminated contract early before Xmas as work I was supposed to do dried up. I'm wondering if it's worth my while suing if for €3k (after tax)?

I take it he's refusing to pay you. How long were you employed there? Were you an employee or a contractor?

Contractor, six months, payment was not a set wage but per service provided for which I billed employer at end of month, contract due to end mid March. I should say that the €4k is possibly what I would have earned during the remainder of the contract but I cannot prove for certain that I would earn that much.
