I think I fcuked up my new phone :(

I got the xaomi mi4 for xmas, and it was working fine but during the week the phone automatically updated to android 4.4.4 then all of a sudden google play store would not work on the phone it kept crashing and the phone couldn't read my location either.. so I start messing around with reboot mode, it didn't work still wouldn't fix the two problems.. then I was so desperate I cleared all data and did a full reset (hoping the phone would revert back to how I got it) but it didn't its still on Android 4.4.4 and now I still don't have google play store I have some Chinese app version which I cannot understand and there stock browser which is all in Chinese.

    anyone any ideas?

Have you googled on your laptop how to change language on your Chinese android, I'd nearly be certain there is a video for it?

A guy posted this information from another site and say's... don't worry about the language. Just use the multi language ROM from miuiandroid.com. Comes pre loaded with Google play services, Chinese apps are removed, and is pre-rooted. It is also updated weekly with the official MIUI ROM.

There is a Global ROM that is stripped from chinese elements. Just look it up in en.miui.com

Here's the instructions to root it, you should be up and working in a few minutes. The link for the developer rom is on this page as follows, this site is legit. http://www.gizchina.com/2014/08/20/root-xiaomi-mi4/

I edited my above comment with a link and video to show you, give it a try. Leave that file you downloaded for the time being and follow all instructions on this link with video and the link for the developer rom is in there. http://www.gizchina.com/2014/08/20/root-xiaomi-mi4/

Name the file update.zip if its not already, put into the root of the phones storage.

Turn phone off and hold vol up+ power to boot it into recovery mode. Use the volume keys to move up and down, and the power key to select options.

Select the option for updating or something similar, it should be the second one, allow it to install. And hopefully that'll work

Good thing about androids is that its actually difficult to completely wreck one, at the very worst a tech savvy friend should be able to have it up and running in a few hours

Should that be unzipped before putting on USB?

Just take your time doing this and you should be grand.

No, just make sure the developer file is called update.zip and put it into the mi4 storage.

Make sure your phone has a good battery charge as you don't want the battery to waste while doing this, just a heads-up.

Just an update: forget about that first file you downloaded to your documents. The rom file you want is the developer rom file just to be clear. Just delete the file you downloaded, as the developer rom file is the proper one. They will both work, but the developer one is better to use.

I dont know where im going wrong here, im following the guys instructions to a T, I downloaded the file.. extracted it and named it update.zip.. dragged it to my root dr (This took a few minutes to load them on).. and then when I go into 'Install update.zip to System One' it fails and prompts me with "update.zip signature verification failed"

Don't think your meant to unzip before installing!

    Do not unzip file.

I'm sorry about that dude, just concentrate on the developer rom because that other one is not as good. just follow the instructions again below...

    • Download the developer ROM from here.
    • Rename the downloaded file to ‘update.zip’.
    • Open the Updater app on your Xiaomi Mi4, hit menu and then reboot to recovery mode.
    • Once you’re in recovery, the touchscreen will not work. Use volume buttons for navigation, and the power button to select.
    • Select your preferred language (English in our case)
    • Wipe cache by going to ‘Wipe and reset’ and then select wipe cache.
    • Now, install the ROM we downloaded by selecting ‘Install zip to system one’.
    • Once done, reboot.

Could you instruct me step by step by the picture attached of what to do when I have downloaded the rom

    thanks

Sorry I was running off memory I mightn't have made myself fully clear.

Rename the archive you have opened above "update" and then follow the instructions in the post above yours, he's got it pretty much down
