Bad experience with oiled floors

I have had a disasterous experience with new oiled floors - where every spill and bit of dirt is sticking - less than 1 year old and they look like 20 years old. They are from a reputable manufacturer who is claiming there is no fault. Has anyone had bad experience with oiled floors and for what reasons?

Actually its all about maintenance. I think you didn't maintain it properly and this is the reason you had a disastrous experience. If you regularly vacuum and wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth , it won't give you tough time. And never wet mop the floor .I mop my floor with oil refresher twice a year and it still looks brand new.

No its maintained all right - infact maintaining it is almost a full time job and thats the problem. House is vaccumed every other day and spills wiped within seconds but already too late. We dont wear shoes in house and its not any incidents that are ruining it rather general dirt (off color). No mob every used.

I see. Are you sure about its quality? you might have gone for a poor quality floor. Sometimes even reputable providers deceive.

well thats what Im thinking now but you would think a floor costing in excess of 60 euro per sq meter would survive a year of wear.

    Hi Tricky
Your floor is about 1 year old. Just wondering if you have re oiled the floor since you purchased it ?. It sounds like the wear layer surf of the oil is worn when you say everything is sticking to it and spills are unable to be cleaned. You probably need to re - oil the floor. It is possibly the areas you use most is this way ( traffic etc ) Rub your hand on the floor where there is no traffic like under a couch. Then do the same in a traffic area of floor. You will find the different surface feeling. Apart from general cleaning it is essential to oil the floor at least once a year or maybe more if a high traffic area.
