Hi all, was wondering if someone could answer this for me.
What is the difference between an oven that uses .8 kwh and an oven that uses 2kwh (apart from the 2kw one using more power)? Does the 2kw cook food faster or anything like that?

The cooking speed is mainly down to the temperature the oven is set to, the 2kw one will get to the right temperature quicker (assuming the same size unit) and will recover quicker after the door gets opened for any reason. A fan assisted oven will cook quicker and usually at a lower temperature as the heat is blown int the food rather than waiting for convection to heat it.

You're quoting kilowatt-hours so it all depends on how those numbers are calculated i.e. for how long is the oven switched on and what temperature is it set to? If the numbers are calculated by different methods then they are meaningless. It's a bit like petrol consumption (mpg), unless the two numbers were calculated using a standardised method, they don't mean anything.

With electricity and heat, you get what you pay for. What really matters in an oven is the insulation so things like a triple-glazed door are important to conserve the heat and reduce consumption.
