For the top 4/5 teams in the country, can the bar go any higher in terms of preparation and professionalism?

Yeah, they can officially go full time and have the benefit of better rest and recuperation after matches and sessions. Given how good the underage structures are in Dublin now they will continue to improve. Kerry are also well funded and they have improved their underage structures so they won't be standing still either. The gap to the rest will increase.

There's still a million miles between where we are and where we could be even without any talk of professionalism imo.

    Improvements I see happening:
    1. Attacking plays taking tactical approach from American football where several people have a specific role. In my view much more effective than players acting individually. There currently is a little bit of this but it's not to the level I'm talking about.
    2. The 6'6" full forward becoming much more common. If you have the athlete you can train them into a very effective role.
Catch the ball and lay it off or simply knock it down. With the square ball rule gotten rid of except during dead ball situations teams are a bit behind the times in not having big target men at full forward.
    3. Improvement in the assessment of players encompassing all actions performed on the pitch.
    4. Better tactical substitutions in particular in the middle third of the pitch. I believe as soon as a players running speed starts to lag they should be substituted.
    5. Better refereeing and rules.
    - Calling for steps
    - Probably the black card will be reduced to third black card is off. Clearly from last years championship 4th black card is off is absolutely no deterrent.
I don't believe a single team had 4 black cards in a game. Two was common and would properly put caution on a team.
    - Likely black card for time wasting/preventing quick free been taken
    6. Accuracy. James ODonoghue has set a level of accuracy from play that is astonishing. In terms of how far ahead of everyone else he is it is ridiculous, stats are on the Don't foul blog. I believe other players can follow not to that level of accuracy but can get closer.
