But this is the thing that gets me, I see numerous choppers in and out of Castlebar all the time, from the reek and what not, what I can't figure out is why sometime use the Military ones and why sometime use the orange rescue ones ?

They operate in conjunction with each other. Depending on taskings, the Air Corp heli may be the nearest and the Coast Gaurd me be busy for example.

The AW139 is the Air Corps doing medevac for HSE. The S-92s(orange and white) do search and rescue and medevac for the Irish Coast Guard. All going to the hospital with or to pick up patients.

Medevac 112 landed at Castlebar hospital at 1600 local this evening. they are often in a few times in a week along with the Sligo based S-92 ,Rescue 118. In recent times the Sligo based S-92 has been tasked by the HSE to carry out patient transfers from example Castlebar-Dublin , in these cases the callsign Medevac 118 instead of Rescue 118. follow Medevac 112 on facebook and in the past few days the official Rescue 118 page has become active again ;)
