Anyone here been to Costa Rica? I am heading there soon and I have a query regarding the currency. The guide books and travel agents recommend bringing US Dollars however the exchange rate against the Euro is at a 3 year low. Is it possible to bring Euros and change them into Colons over there saving the expense of losing value buying Dollars? I'd Appreciate any advice, thanks.

You're not thinking that through properly. Going through an intermediate currency like the dollar won't lose you money just because the dollar is 'strong' against the Euro because what you 'lose' by buying a strong currency, you will gain when you exchange that 'strong' currency against a third currency.

Regardless of the dollar vs. Euro exchange rate, you will be hammered by two layers of FX charges if you go euro => dollar => colon so I'd bring a few euros and see about getting money from an ATM when there.
