Bought a Dyson cylinder vacuum today in Aldi Elysian in Cork. Plenty left in stock at lunch time. Can't see any links online, but it was €200 down from €350. Also not sure if it's nationwide, but for anyone interested maybe ye will be lucky.

    What model?

Had a DC07 for 12 years til the motor ran out, even the Dyson support line seemed suprised afaik when asked on when to get a replacement for it. :p

€80 was quoted/€40 for non-Dyson by local domestic appliance fitter.
Still have Henry the Hoover, hasn't let me down yet...;)

Nilfisk all the way! Had one at home for years a gs90

    333276.jpg

In 25+ years the only thing it ever needed were a replacement power cable and new brushes in the motor because one had broken after one of many tumbles down the stairs.(these were provided free as the place in Carlow said they should never wear out or break like that.)

My parents had one for 20 years. We got rid of it for a dyson. As the dyson is better on our wooden floors(the nilflisk head for tiles/wooden floors is fairly ****)

You'll pay for the bags though.

I think I might need to get a new hoover as our old Dyson isn't living up to its reputation. We got it two years ago and it's been a pain in the nads.
    Advantages: No bag, Lightweight.
Disadvantages: The crap goes everywhere when you empty the cylinder, we have pet rabbits and it gets blocked with hay and sawdust constantly, resulting in zero suction.

Miele is the general concensus so?

+100! Have a Dyson and got rid of it , piece of ****e. Miele cat and dog is the one I have now and is the biz, bags aren't that expensive either

It's a deal alert for dyson not a vacuum fan boy discussion surely.

We only got the dyson at the Black Friday sales and it seems all good. Not as noisy as Vax and seems well made.

Are there any household vacuum cleaners designed to suck up hay and sawdust?:D

Nonsense, Dysons are fantastic machines. We have ours over 10 years now and despite a lot of abuse, it's still brilliant.

Dyson are pretty good IMHO but only if not paying full price. Have had one for years and its still sucking away despite my not looking after it in any way whatsoever. What I'd love to know though is why, having developed 000s of prototypes, Mr Dyson couldn't get it right in the 1st place instead of having to bring out new models every year (!!).

Have had a dyson for the last 7 years find it great for the dog hairs, never a problem with it.

Sorry people, only back on line now. The model I got was DC28. Powerful as hell machine, delighted with it.

Thanks Mushy, I went down earlier and saw the DC28C Multifloor but at €249.99.. guess it must be a misprice or location specific

I'd consider dyson to be bit overrated but "plastic junk" they ain't. There is one here that's in everyday use for the last 12 years and not once has anything gone wrong with it.

Any Dyson I have ever used has been noisy, average to poor suction, cheap feeling and has had various bits held together with silver Duck tape. You don't know what you are missing until you own a Miele.

Any Dyson I've used has not been as noisy, quality suction, and not one part has been broken...go figure!

Anyway, as mentioned, its a BA for €150 off a Dyson, not a vacuum discussion thread.

To put an end to this, the Dysons when they were first released were powerful, bulletproof and brilliantly designed all round. They only started the "release 100 models every other year" policy in the last 10 years.

Newer models are overcomplicated, badly thought out, clog up easily, not powerful, flimsy, and have tiny dust bins. Our old DC05 was effectively made by a completely different company.

I've been using this carpet sweeper for 27 years now and I think its fantastic apart from the rust it's in perfect condition, it was bought in Crazy Prices for 15 pound I'd highly recommend it.

Dyson often have good offers on their own site. http://www.dyson.co.uk/january-sale.aspx
They'd GBP 100 off some of the GBP 250 machines pre-christmas. They also have an official ebayuk shop with frequent offers and reconditioned stock. Won't shop to RoI so pm or similar freight forwarder needed.
