Home PC with a bit of Virtualization

My home build PC died before the Christmas. It was over 7 years old now, so time for an upgrade. Not a gamer, so I got a cheap graphics card. Will be used with Windows 8.1 until Windows 10 is released.

    All purchased from Amazon UK.

    Processor: AMD FX8350 Black Edition 8 Core Processor (4.0/4.2GHz, 8MB Level 3 Cache, 8MB Level 2 Cache, Socket AM3+, 125W, Retail Boxed) - £126.89

    Motherboard: Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 Motherboard (AMD 970, SB950, DDR3, S-ATA 600, ATX, 2 x eS-ATA, 2 x USB 3.0, Socket AM3+) - £65.71

    RAM: 2 x HyperX FURY Series 8GB DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module - Blue - £123.22

    Graphics Card: Sapphire 11190-02-20G AMD HD6450 1GB DDR3 Lite Retail PCI-E Graphics Card - £28.70

Hard Drive: Intel 530 Series 120GB Solid State Drive - £66.41

    Total Price: £410.93 - 525.09 Euro

Have optical drive and case left over from the old PC. 24" monitor. PSU Corsair HX520W

Any comments would be appreciated, especially if there is any incompatibility with my components.

    Some things to maybe consider:

Any reason you are going with AMD over intel? As far as I'm aware, intel has no issues with virtualization, although the multitude of cores with the AMD processor could be beneficial to running a virtual PC. Also, are you sure you only need 120GB of storage? I know from experience that Virtual PC builds to take up quite a bit of space.

How old is the power supply? I don't think that particular model has been around for seven years but you maybe should consider replacing it if it's over three years of age.

Use this to check your power supply. Use your 120GB SSD as C:, but add in whatever other disks you already have - you'll almost certainly need more than that. Try a 4TB HD as extra storage.
