Got a letter this morning off the bank saying I'm over drawn by 290€ and I need pay it immediatly as they can charge 10€ five times a day to try get it.How legal is this.I have no overdraft a bill was due to come out of my account but I hadn't the money to pay it so missed it but with no overdraft in place should my service just no tv have been canceled instead of this bill for 300? Wondering how they can do this

    Have you contacted your bank?

In the past some banks have added an overdraft facility for being a good customer.

OP you probably signed a mandate allowing the service provider to debit your account so no issue with provider, assuming the amount owed is correct. This is not an overdraft, you are overdrawn in your account and if you do not have an overdraft facility, the bank can hit you with penalties in line with the T&Cs of your account. It is in your best interest to contact the bank and arrange payment asap, any further transactions on your account will incur further penalties so check if you have anymore DDs due out in the coming weeks. If you are under contract with the service provider, cancelling that before the term is up may incur even more expense but the bank is the big one, it will hurt your credit rating if you miss payments to a banking institution.
