Getting hits on your website from abroad

Over the last few weeks we ran a paid campaign through Adwords to try and do some promotion. We targeted Ireland only as our service is only offered in Ireland. On checking Google analytics the 2nd largest percentage of hits we received came from India so we pulled the ads. Today analytics is now telling that India is the largest amount of hits Ireland 2nd and Indonesia 3rd.

Is anyone else getting a serious amount of clicks on their website from countrys that have no relevance to their business or is this some sort of targeting by scammers/fraudsters?

Do you mean AdWords clicks specifically? You might be looking at 'All Traffic' and seeing clicks from bots or spammers - I've seen an increase in them over the past few weeks myself. However, if you are sure you were targeting Ireland only, then you shouldn't be seeing clicks from outside Ireland.
