Short break with friend in Ireland

My friend and I (two women in early 30's) are looking to treat ourselves to maybe 2-3 nights away in a hotel. We have both had a really crappy past year so we want to look after ourselves.

We both live in Co. Limerick - we are willing to travel 2-3 hours to get to a destination within Ireland.

We dont have an concrete criteria but a nice 4* - possibly reasonable 5* hotel, With an excellent spa. It would be nice for the hotel to be near-ish a city but on the otherhand total seclusion would be lovely!

Any ideas? We are open to all suggestions. The only place we had thought of so far is The G in Galway. Galway would be a city we really like so if anyone has stayed in the G your input would really be appreciated!

    Hope someone can help!
    Thanks in advance,

Farnham Estate in Cavan, falls into the rural seclusion category.

If you can go midweek you can get some great 1/2 night deals.

    I'd recommend this place...

    Food is expensive though.

Food is a bit expensive but in fairness the meal we had in the restaurant was one of the nicest meals I've ever had. You can see it on the plate.

The bar is quite small and not very comfortable for a meal.

Spa is very small too and not well laid out. Only has 6 loungers for relaxing.

    But a nice spot alright!

The Spa in the G is gorgeous. It's in a retail park so not secluded but that's never bothered me once I'm in there.

The spa in Lyrath is beautiful too. We went while the schools were on midterm break and it was full of kids so that left a bad impression. We would like to give it another go though but definitely not during any school holidays. It's a beautiful hotel.

I haven't been to the spa in Farnham but I didn't find the hotel at all comfortable. I wouldn't go back. That said, I know a couple that goes there every year and loves it so obviously not everyone feels like I do.

The Maryborough in Cork is worth consideration. The spa there is gorgeous. It's kind of secluded because it's surrounded by gardens and trees but Douglas village is close by and full of restaurants and bars and Cork city is about 10 minutes away. Great staff too.

Wasn't a big fan of the bar either. But didn't find the spa small at all. I liked the way it was scattered around, more privacy and very relaxing. Beautiful grounds too if its a nice day for a walk.
