    Well,

I'm considering doing an LLM in Criminal Litigation at City University London previously known as "The Inns of Court School of Law". My concern is that the university in question doesn't seem to be that well known however the LLM in question offers exactly what I am looking. The course is very practical and criminal LAW centred. There is a heavy focus on criminal advocacy, case law and court room and criminal law procedure which is what interests me. From my green eared research of other criminal law masters the majority seem to be "Criminal Justice and Criminology" LLM's which focus more on the prison system, restorative justice and crime in society which while interesting would not in my opinion be nearly as beneficial to practicing at the criminal bar as the Criminal Litgation LLM.
Basically my problem is the course I dream of doing is at a university which I am concerned may not holdthe same weight as the likes of NYU, Cambridge, Oxford etc. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Fergal.

You should definitely look at other London Unis. I did part of my LLM in criminal law. UCL has a very criminal law LLM. Try and get a list of the subjects that they teach in each university and who teaches them.
Personally, I think you are better going for a name-university. I don't think I'd want to sit in an interview and have to justify my choice of uni.

They were called to the Bar doing what was then the BVC. LLMs at BPTC providers have an awful reputation. They are simply cash cows.

In a way, LLMs that purport to offer practical courses on litigation are a waste of time. If you want to learn about litigation just do the relevant professional qualification in the relevant jurisdiction.

Also, OP, bear in mind that the English criminal justice system has many major structural differences to our own and in many areas the substantive law is quite different. So I can't see this LLM having much value in Ireland. If you want to understand the English criminal justice system then just do the BPTC.
