Will Dealers take a hit for depreciation on 1st Jan or will prices you can see displayed today be the same on that date?

Depends on when they bought the cars. A car held for 6 months will be worth less than when you bought it - regardless of what month that was.

Any deals fine in the last few months of the year would be at 2015 money.

really depends on what it is. You'll get a fair few people trading in standard stuff in january for whatevers on the forecourt , small hatchbacks, bog spec family saloons and generic white vans. if theres a glut of something second hand, say 3 year old golfs in silver, some dealers will drop the prices to shift them faster than others.

Anything thats up now or rare probably won't see much of a drop. however trade ins that come in in january would be discounted in july-august if they were still hanging round.

Im more coming form if theres a car sitting on a forecourt today and been there for a few weeks priced at 10k, will it be less than that on Jan 1st?

No because they would have discounted it 1-2 months before January generally. So it's not like the dealer walks in on 1st jan and knocks money off every used car they have.

A dealer will try to make as much as possible in any sale but their primary goal is always to make the sale. You'll probably push a harder deal on the same car in November than the following January because cashflow could be tight in November but things start moving again in January.

+1 January is probably the worst time to haggle on a second hand car , when dealers are too busy shifting new stock to care.
