Robbie Fogarty seems to be the new presenter of sunshine breakfast from this week. what has happened Stevie Bolger?

I looked at their website. On Sunshine's homepage, Robbie Fogarty is shown as the breakfast presenter and Enda Murphy is the mid-morning presenter. Both come from 4FM, who have shared management with Sunshine 106.8. They are now shown as part of the list of presenters on their website. Stevie Bolger is not shown. However, if you click on the schedule for Monday - Friday, he is still listed as breakfast presenter. Under Saturday, Stevie is listed as presenter of Mellow Moments from 6pm.

    Could someone clarify all this?

I hope Sunshine wont turn into another 4FM for dublin only. It is live only during the daytime.

I had checked the schedule as saw Robbie there, though Stevie is still listed in the mon-fri and at weekends. Was Stevie was with the station since its Dublin's Country or just its Country Mix days ? I always liked his shows, where for him now.

Maybe Declan can answer this one! Also is he really Smiley Bolger's brother??

Yes. Stevie is there since about 6 months after they opened. He was let go at one stage but brought back. He'd being doin breakfast for the bones of 3 years. A more dedicated man to a show you will not find

Lynsey Dolan left too. When I heard that I knew Stevie hadn't long left there. So what station was he on between RTE Cork closed and Country/Sunshine?

Are Sunshine staying in the north wall quay building (formerly phantom fm) and moving to castleforbes house?

Three out of the four weekday presenters have had connections with 4FM: Robbie, Enda and Carol. Two of them have had connections with Radio Nova: Enda and Carol. Three of them have had connections with East Coast FM: Enda, Carol and Joe.

Sean Ashmore, CEO of both Sunshine 106.8 and 4FM, is also a weekend presenter on this station and has previously been involved with East Coast FM and Radio Nova. Sean has been CEO of East Coast FM, as well. I'm not sure if he still is, but he certainly has a share in the ownership of East Coast FM.

Dublin's Country Mix 106.8 (as it was then) and East Coast FM used to be in the same building and many presenters did stints with both stations at the time. Joe Harrington's connections seem to stem from those days, when he would have been either PD or CEO of East Coast FM. Joe is also part of the management and/or ownership of Sunshine.

Radio Nova and 4FM have shared ownership, and 4FM and Sunshine 106.8 have shared management, and East Coast FM and Sunshine 106.8 have shared ownership.

On another note, was Lyndsey Dolan the first breakfast presenter on Sunshine, after the name-change? I know Tommy Greene did a stint at that gig. He is now a presenter with East Coast FM!

Seems to be a major take over of Sunshine from Nova/4fm. Sunshine presenters gone, the majority of shows are voice tracked and production has now been moved to the hands of 4fm production staff.

The Sunshine sales have already moved into Castleforbes house so only a matter of time until they move the studio there too. And it is such a shame, some very good presenters have gone to be now replaced by pre recorded shows.

    As it stands...

    Breakfast is pre recorded
    Lunch is pre recorded
    Drive is live
    Mellow Moments is pre recorded

The whole schedule apart from drive is pre recorded ? How did they retain the licence ?

Mindful of the absolute shambles that Sunshine is can the BAI even begin to attempt to justify why they renewed Sunshine's license

    That's a very good question.

They eschewed the concept of a true niche station in Country FM, instead choosing what will become a bland, automated, soulless intermediary of 4fm and Q102.

Suffice to say all was not as it seemed.

    From Sunshine's BAI application paper....

    5.2.3.2 the hours of live programming (start and end) per day;
Sunshine 106.8 will operate live programming from 6am to 10pm each weekday, from 7am to 7pm on Saturday and 7am to 8pm on Sunday. A total of 105 hours per week.
    45
Sunshine 106.8 Application to the Broadcast Authority of Ireland
    5.2.3.3 the hours of automated programming (start and end) each day;
Sunshine 106.8 will use automated or ‘as live’ voice-tracked programming from 10pm to 6am each weekday and from 7pm to 6am on Saturdays and 8pm to 6am on Sundays. A total of 63 hours per week at off-peak hours.

While this time of year can be open to abuse of Backtracking of what is normally live output, the list of live and recorded shows as you report is a complete disgrace.

The station used to be live, from breakfast up until Mellow Moments, but since the departure of Stevie and Lynsay it has mainly been voice tracked.

Mellow Moments has been voice tracked from way back.

It is such a shame really. But it would appear that the influence from Castleforbes House has possibly pushed them into this situation. Cutback after cutback has taken it's toll it would appear.

The one thing I do now question is the possibility of breach. With production amalgamated to 4fm, shows voice tracked and only one live show per day (Joe Harington) how can it not be against their BAI license agreement?

This can hardly be called a radio station at this point. Even volunteer stations can muster up live programming. Why on earth is this allowed to continue? It is an insult to the listeners, what few are left by now.

the country and irish show with howard myers at 3am sunday mornings has also been axed the past few weeks. is it only a matter of time before paschal mooney and paddy cole sunday mornings get axed for a love songs show? the mostly irish music they play fits into the original dublin's country criteria.

Mooney and Cole are two of the best performing shows on the station over the years. In the case of Cole, it's about the only show on the station where they have been the most listened to station in the Dublin market. Ironic that they are the two shows that do what the station was meant to do (Play country music.); normally you would expect they'd have expanded these shows given their success.....

As has been said in the above quotes the situation is quite disgraceful and one would wonder why it is being allowed. Where is the BAI when you need them. If I was a member of the Country FM group that lost out just seven or eight months ago to this so called radio station?? (I use the term lightly) I would be looking for an explanation from the BAI as to just what exactly is going on. I would also be asking what, if anything, the BAI intend to do about it.

Only one person from Country Fm came out "full on" challenging the BAI's decision and that was Keith Shanley. Much of what he said, now appears to be correct. I also notice Country Fm are in the process of setting up a Country TV station without Shanley. One wonders if there was a difference of opinion from the directors after his comments..

Eh lads, a cursory listen to Sunshine will show that the posts about pre-recorded shows are not accurate. All one has to do is listen in to the station and this is apparent within minutes.

Eleven days into the new year so maybe breakfast is now live.

    Enda Murphy is voice tracked.

    Drive is live.

Mellow Moments is, and has ALWAYS been voice tracked.

The majority of the weekend shows are all voice tracked too.

It's Joe Harrington I feel sorry for. It has been that man's passion, yet it is blatantly clear the the suits in Castleforbes pull more strings than just the purse strings.

Sunshine sales and production now operate from Castleforbes House. Studio are due to move in there shortly too.

4fm staff now do Sunshine production and the Sunshine production manager was made redundant in favour of this cost cutting measure.

You might like to check up on your facts there Groucho.

106.8 have gone from playing Brooks & Dunn and Alan Jackson to playing Atomic Kitten. The original Dublin's Country didnt really play Irish stuff, except for the specialist shows. they should have though

wonder will Stevie Bolger appear on any radio soon ?

I had Fogarty's breakfast show on this morning from 8:30 till 10AM and Murphy for about 20 minutes. I can't say that I'm convinced that either show was live, even with the up to date traffic inserts and time checks as it sounds so flat, dead and rehearsed. There were a few times where really short songs are cut as if the playback software cut in; it sounded really poor.

Music wise I reckon that the music library has swapped their copy of 20 Golden Country Hits and The Easiest Irish Album for Heart FM's back up Double album CD from 2001. If somebody could take the Carpenters off them then there'd be some hope!
