Camera club's

For the last while ive been thinking of joining a camera club in my area and just wondering if anyone here is a member of one? my dad joined one when they moved to my home town when i was born and loved it.

im newish enough at photography but find alot of the terminology hard to understand. Does anyone here find them useful or enjoyable?

Where are you? Might help to find the nearest one.

Clubs are brilliant. A really great way to learn and get help from others. Most clubs are just great and full of lovely people. They will guide you and also challenge you.

Iv been meaning to join a club all this year, just illness took over for a while, Priority for next year do, Dont be shy either, most clubs (if not all) will be welcoming. I cant wait to get into one.

There is one in Palmerstown.
They meet every Wednesday night at 8pm.
Am a member myself, very friendly and welcoming club.

I'm glad I joined the Dublin camera club, very nice bunch of people - so supportive and I've learned so much that I wouldn't/couldn't have learned on my own. It's a passion for a lot of people, share it and benefit from the experience of others I say!

Tallaght Photographic Society meet every Tuesday @ 8pm in the Maldron Hotel on Tallaght bypass. Lovely bunch of people, have been a member for 2 years now.Our salon is one of the longest running in the country. All new members are most welcome.

we have had a lot of new members recently, clubs suit some people and not others

I joined Dublin Camera Club when I moved to Ireland in 2006. Really good club and I learned so much there. Soon I was on the Council, as I kept making suggestions, and eventually became President for a while. Still have many good friends there.

Having said that many other clubs in Ireland are also excellent. You get out what you put in.

Be careful there can be a lot of politics in clubs and competition. Decided not to join the local one after seeing the "constructive criticism" and hearing some stories.

Clubs are not for everyone no matter what you are into , be it sport, knitting or photography.

My experience of clubs has been positive. Im a member of Rush library camera group and really enjoy the meetings and the outings when I can get there. People are so helpful and you can pick up hints and tips from just chatting to others after outings or meetings.

I would not worry about what some people call "Clicques" these are just people who do a lot of the donkey work and organise events for people like me who simply cant give the time as I have 3 kids who keep me very busy.

I would say if you do join a club join with the intention of getting involved and make a few suggestions that you can help with.

Hi Molly,

I was an active member of the Clondalkin Camera Club before I moved to Australia last year. I'd highly recommend going down and joining. I noticed my photography improved massively as a result of the club and being surrounded by it's talented and friendly members. They allow you to pop along for a few sessions before you join to see if you like it. It was probably the single best investment in my love of photography and I got to meet some very nice locals as well. You just have to throw yourself into it so to speak

I am involved in Lismore Camera Club. Last year I did the accreditation to become a Judge on the FCC list. Currently judging a batch of Digital Monochrome for Forster Camera Club.
