After the fiasco that was the IFTAs, RTE have decided to have another go at it... So far no sound of delph, and people on their mobiles trying to call a taxi, no Laura Whitemore SHOUTING AT EVERYBODY..... So a good start in all..

Be some craic if he asked Rory about the missus...

It's amazing that they have got everybody to appear at this... It's not like it's a huge event or anything, but they are ALL there...

So if you win anything in Dec good luck!

    Bye Andy Lee!

Wonder if cyclist Dan Martin is nominated? Excellent comeback in the second half of the season after his Giro crash.

The studio director sure is determined to let us know they have Rory McIlroy live in studio!

At least Dara Moloney is highly unlikely to put his foot in it, unlike Lineker..

Yeah it is ridiculous... That was Andy Lee's last chance really and I'm not sure why all the talk was about McGuigan and his adopted son... They seem to get a lot of RTE time, which seems to be driven by McGuigan wanting to promote his man and sell tickets..

I'd love if they gave it to Lewis Hamilton just to p1ss McIlroy off..

If Ryan Tubridy was presenting this then that would not be out of the question.... 'so Lewis, your great great-grandfather was from Tuam'!

"What about the wedding invites, Rory.... " :pac:

Ah, I like Rory... The mental strength to achieve what he has achieved, especially considering the huge meltdown that he had when leading his first major in Augusta, is something that I find amazing.....

    Des Smyth - legend.

Rory took long enough to decide to play for Ireland.

It's a better format than the BBC SPOTY, some decent interviews rather than the extended profiles of the people you've never heard off, but who got nominated to make the show more politically correct.

    Hiya Guys.

It is a nice settled atmosphere for this awards ceremony tonight.

    Agreed.

Interesting stuff from Coleman there.. He came across well ....

Roy Keane would have been there tonight but he has a book signing tonight.. :pac:

The memory man looking very shook.

Agree with the comments about the show. A tight format - the Beeb obviously have the budget to go big and put on a show. Daragh Maloney does a good job considering it used to take three presenters to do the same job not long ago.

It helps too that there doesn't seem to be any booze. I remember a glazed over Barry Gerathy a few years ago!

Have to say, Darragh Moloney is an excellent presenter.... That was an awkward moment with Martin O'Neill there, with some abstract references to Roy keane, where it was difficult to make out what point he was getting at... But Moloney just pushed on with a question about the championship..

I agree about Darragh, although I thought Martin did well, he talked a lot without saying anything controversial about his Assistant. That's all he needed to do.

There's another surprise... The cop that arrested him in the US is here to present the award.. :pac:

Congrats to BOD. Thoroughly deserved award to have for a person of having this great ability of playing rugby.

It is also nice to see Jonathan Sexton in among the crowd tonight.

Be interesting to see what Jonny has to say about his concussion..

There's the memory man again - I thought he'd fallen out with RTE.

Katie Taylor not in attendance. I'd say her father kept her away due to her not winning, maybe they are at odds with RTE over coverage

He could be right. RTE does over cover Katie Taylor. Its a very minority sport and they do make too big a deal of her.

That Martyn Irvine mention looked a bit last minute. They could have had a few words with him.

A foreigner gets Irish sports manager of the year ???? I wonder what team of the year will be?? Sportsperson has to be Katie

She is our Olympic Gold medalist - she's a Sky Ambassador anyway

This is turning into a rugby ****fest. If Sexton gets the individual award, it will be some joke

You'll probably lose the rag when another "foreigner" wins
    Rory

Youre probably right esp since he is there. It is close no doubt, he should have won the BBC one for sure. Considering the global appeal of golf and what he has achieved this year he is a cert

Brendan Rodgers surely deserved a nomination for 2nd place aswell considering some of the people who did get nominated. Coleman got a best sportstar nomination despite winning feck all

Of course it will be mcilroy he wouldn't be there otherwise

Got into Premier League team of the year ahead of Zabaleta the RB for league champions and world cup runners up and scored 7+ goals from RB

They said the same at the BBC Awards. I hope it is Rory though he deserves it.

That was a public vote, this isn't

Watching this... It does appear some are more equal than others in the eyes of RTE. Every nominee in attendance should be interviewed regardless of how long the video package is. The BBC treated every one of their nominees equally.

Totally agree - shocking that they wouldn't interview Mark English.

And how Dan Martin was not a nominee is beyond me.

Did I see Paul O'Connell throwing his (proverbial) hat on the ground...

I think that poll was hijacked like one of Joe Duffy's Liveline polls..

    Michael Ring

Never saw that one coming, since Katie didnt get it i suppose

I was really hoping the rugby ladies would get the team trophy

    Well, now, there's a surprise - it's Rory!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

Well deserved. You could probably make a case for Rory being the World Sportsperson of the year too.
