Mate of mine has been into tunes for a long long time but now wants to learn to mix. He needs some help choosing a controller. I'm totally out of the loop these days so hoping someone can give some recommendations.

He's looking at a Pioneer We Go 3 - looks decent but wondering what other options are there? He's not very technical - this will just be a bit of fun he wont be gigging with it. Just want something basic, simple, easy and foolproof. Integrated soundcard, easy to set up. I'm thinking virtual dj would be easier to learn than Traktor. He really just needs the most basic mixing ability. Some very basic loops & effects are ok but I think anything complicated will confuse things

    Any recommendations anyone?

What about one of the serato ones? I'd definitely recommend it over virtual dj.
http://serato.com/dj/hardware/controllers for a list of all compatible ones, and most come with serato dj AFAIK

Serato is going to be the easiest IMHO - its completely plug and play with supported controllers and rock solid for performance.

I would consider the Pioneer DDJ-SB rather than the WeGo, unless his rig is going to be an ipad which is the only reason IMHO to go with the WeGo.

Its also a bit cheaper @ just 220 euro despite being more solid and substantial feeling than the WeGo and comes with Serato.

Bored in work so I just had a look at some videos of the WeGo 3. Looks impressive, but it'd only be an option if you already have an iPad. The Djay/Algoriddim programme that it comes with is a really decent (and easy to use) piece of Djing software for IOS.

Thanks lads. The DDJ SB looks great alright - that's what I'd go for anyway. Baz he does actually have an ipad and may want to use it, but I'd say it would be a pain! I'm sure you can still use a laptop also though

Apparently you can use any IOS device or a laptop with any of the DJ software packages.

It's a bit of a mindfvck the amount of options available nowadays. I wouldn't know were to start myself if I was just starting off.

The WeGo is actually pretty sick setup with an Ipad, and the software is rock solid. The only limitation really is storage space for tracks. But you genuinely wont get anything easier to setup.

Also Djay integrates with spotify, so if he has a pro account he can mix with the songs from there free of charge.

The only off-putting thing about the WeGo is its TINY though and feels it.

The SB does not work with IOS - only the Ergo and WeGo (natively)

The Vestax Spin2 might be worth a look too, its about the same money and works with ios devices too and I believe charges them at the same time which the WeGo does not.
