Nerd people. I need your nerd help

My bitch sister broke the spacebar on my keyboard, I have one from an old PC that I can plug in but I don't have a spare mouse. So I have to choose between resting the plug-in keyboard on the real one and have it press random letters every time I type, or else having the plug-in on the desk in front of the laptop and having to reach past the keyboard to use the mousepad, which just goes against all laws of nature and man.

I can't find an extension that locks the real keyboard without also locking the plug-in one, does anybody know of one or just know how I can get around this?

There's probably some kind of nerd forum that would be more appropriate for this but I don't know where it is. Also I did google it but had no luck. Help me boardsies, you're my only hope.

Pfft, how did you type this then? Troll.

.....why don't you just move the old keyboard or unplug it?

Failing that, have you tried to turn it off and on again?

Do you need a hand slapping the head of your sister ?

Right now I'm opting for reaching over the keyboard to get to the mousepad, but it's mildly inconvenient and therefore making me furious.

It's a laptop, can't move the old keyboard.

    And yes, I did :(

How about putting the keyboard in front of the laptop instead of on top of it?

It's only for a few days I assume until you get the replacement.

    Edit: Nevermind. Typing too slow.

Just remove the space bar button? Literally take it off and stick something else there?

    Show us a pic?

    Of your boobs, of course

    Deal with her first

It's a laptop, can't move the old keyboard.

Should be doable if you feel like trying. Let us know if you want to try, assuming its out of warranty.

Cutting her legs off will create more space already, not sure how that will help her space bar problem

    Kick it in the face.

I was thinking she could use one of the chair legs to work the mousepad and avoid awkward reaching.

Aye but it's pretty disruptive having to use it for the spacebar. The w, tab and z keys are already broken and I manage without them, but the spacebar is just too far.

    This I'm intrigued by.

Do you have a smartphone? There are apps out there that simulate a mouse. Just put the keyboard in front of the laptop and use your phone as a mouse.

It is most definitely out of warranty, but I'd be absolutely screwed if it broke and I can't afford a new one til the end of next month so I dare not.

If I knew what that was I might :(

I can pick up a mouse on Monday like, I just need something to get me through til then

You should be able to uninstall it via device manager. Under keyboards there should be two installed. Standard USB will be one, and your laptop keyboard will be the other. You should have the option to uninstall the laptop one.

    I *think*

If you have one of these you could get a mouse before Monday

Just disable it in device manager. If you uninstall it, it will be picked up again at the next boot and the drivers reinstalled.

There isn't an option to disable it, but does that second sentence mean that I can just uninstall it after every boot?

    Or not reboot!

I never turn my laptop off except for updates. I'm a bad person.

Neither do I. Just close the lid and there's no waiting for it to boot up next time.

Yep uninstall each boot will work. Could also disable it in the BIOS at boot if that option is available.

Actually that's a very good suggestion, my sister is quite fit and strong so I'm going to need some heavy duty restraining materials.

I believe it's an old, old wooden ship used in the civil war.

Bucket of thermite on top of her while she sleeps . . . tis a tad severe. But will be a warning to others against further transgressions.

Just a suggestion but is there not a way you can re-program one of the your keys to work as a spacebar? I'm sure it's possible.

The answer below seems to solve it ;)

Its a tad advanced for the op. There is always copy a space from on screen text then "Ctrl +v" every time you need a space. Becomes second nature after few minutes. Many a keyboard I ruined while perving on some nonsense social media while lanagered at four in the morning and had to resort to this for a while
