What accessories and clothing do you consider essential for cycling. Just starting out and don't want to go overboard but I want to make sure I have the basics covered.

Eventually you'll need N+1 pairs. I have 8 pairs of shorts. 5 quality reasonably expensive pairs and 3 cheaper pairs that I use for short spins. I have numerous Jersey, not sure exactly how many but 15+

At this time of year you'll also need long bin tights and a good warm/thermal jacket. I wouldn't skimp on winter wear as quality really does shine compared to cheaper gear.

Of course you'll also need gloves, overshoes, skull cap, balaclava, base layers, socks, warmer winter shoes and so on and so on....
