I need help buying a second-hand laptop. about 350 euro budget. looking for a light-ish laptop 15" or 17" screen with a 4:3 ratio screen. Not sure how far back i need to go to get this ratio in the screen. I hate the current laptop screen ratio of 16:9 or 16:10 . Do they think we spend our days watching movies on our laptops?! Rant over. Fairly flexible on the other criteria. Ram upgrade to 6gb or more wud be great.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

To be quite frank, you'll have to go back to laptops from 2007 ish and beyond, none of which are worth more than about €100 at this stage. Not to mention, most of those laptops would have have relatively low resolutions, so even if you prefer 4:3, you'd be dealing with poor resolution by modern standards.

You can buy a new laptop with a full 1080P screen, you'll see far more in that than you would in an old obsolete 4:3 screen.

I hated it too, til I actually starting using it, and to be honest you'll get used to it, I hardly notice a difference anymore.

no reason to be going for mac, normally more expensive than their windows equivalent.
