My Volkswagen Golf temperature gauge takes over 45 minutes from cold to reach half way,is this a thermostat issue?

Edit: this is when i leave the car running not whilst actually driving it

this time of year, just ticking over and not being driven, it could probably take 45 minutes yeah. that isn't very good for your engine. are you in the car for those long periods while it's not moving? watch for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Even when driving along on a local road it rarely moves higher than a quarter of the way up,car runs fine otherwise, passed the nct that way too

You need to replace one or both thermostats. This is a reasonably common problem with the Mk5 Golf (I don't know what model yours is).

You'll be getting poor mpg because of this.

She's the MK4 just had her out for 2 hours, drove no problem, but again the temperature gauge didn't go very high, have a thermostat for it so will change it tomorrow, hopefully it works, the mpg could be better though
