The links here are weird, not leading to the second gen one at all.
I got a 5inch, 3G not 4G, dual sim from amazon a few weeks ago. Very pleased with it, came with android 4.4.4 (kitkat). Is due Lolipop Android 5.0 any day now. Works great with 2 SIMs. I use tescomobile PAYG for voice and texts and a meteor 20gbytes for €10.16 pay monthly cos the O2/TESCO data signal is 2G/Edge crap here.

Easy way to tell - the 5" has two front-mounted speakers.

    BTW, they're all dual-SIM (the 5" models) .

Seems to be out of stock everywhere. you can order it. Dunno if they will honour the price then.

I don't think they come with a plug? Does anyone know where to get one?

Why does GSM arena have two different (5") ones listed?

    Only one is Dual Sim.

OK, there is a US and Canada single-SIM version and also a "Global GSM" XT1063 (Optimized for AT&T), but any model you buy in Europe is, I think, safe to say dual-SIM.

Is it possible to reserve these with the status 'item can be ordered' I managed to reserve one but in the email they sent me there is no mention of any code or anything?

I got the same and then tried a different store and got a reservation code in that e-mail. Also in store date was showing as 23rd but e-mail says from the 18th.

If there is no reservation number in the mail then there is no reservation made. Had this issue before when "can be ordered for collection" was the status.Happened again this evening on a George Foreman i was trying. Just a blank Email:confused:

You mean the charger? It comes with the usual MicroUSB to normal USB cable, as used by everybody except Apple of course, and uses the charger everybody has loads of since the EU mandated the mobile phone suppliers to stop frigging about with unique chargers.

Just heads up they aren't all dual-SIM. Global GSM x1063 from USA is a single sim

I bought mine for 140 euro when it just came out on amazon(US)

    Explain for an idiot.....

I've a €10 per month contract with Tesco at the minute. Would it be possible for me to get a data only contract from whomever, and set the phone up to use the data sim for all data usage?
If so, can someone point me in the right direction of the cheapest data plan! ;)

Also, is 8gb very small? Seem to remember reading that there's no expansion?

There is, it takes micro SD cards.

It's just OK. Acceptable. You'll be disappointed if coming from a Galaxy S or Note for example.

Hi - see my post above - I have one SIM from TESCO for voice and text and another from Meteor for data. Reason is the TESCO data signal here is useless 2g/edge. I used a Meteor €10 for "unlimited" ie 7.5Gbytes at first but used it up in 2 weeks and to extend it is expensive. I then found Meteor do a "monthly" deal (new SIM) for 20GBytes for €10.16.
The phone handles the two SIMS perfectly - you can have it ask you which one to use for making a call or text, you can switch from one to the other for data BUT only one can handle 3G - the other is restricted to the old 2G/Edge speed. It can sometimes get confusing if you are doing systems texts like checking balances etc with the two providers, but I'm finding it very liberating to have the choice.
It takes a 32Gbyte Micro SD card too - some net sources claim it can handle 64GBytes but I haven't tried it.

Yeah I ended up trying a different store and I got the code.

re the camera - yeah, that's probably the weakest part of this great value for money phone. It is OK - I've taken some good sunrises and panoramic shots with it, fine for Facebook etc. but definitely did not have the "wow" factor of the Galaxy models.

I thought the 8mp camera on the 5" was meant to be much improved over the 5mp on the 4.5".

What Samsung has a better camera at a similar price point??

The Note and S4/5 are hugely more expensive. A S3 or S4 mini are also more expensive no???

Well I was comparing it to my buddy's galaxy S3. His photo s just seemed crisper, more alive. Mind you his display might be sharper too, didn't really get to do side by side comparison. I don't think anyone is trying to suggest the moto g camera could or should be compared to the €500+ phones, it's just that the features of the phone are unbeatable for a sub €200 price and the least outstanding feature is the camera.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

Would it tempt you to get a S3 for 230?

The S3 is fairly bloated and off the update list. Which is a pity as the hardware is still good.

I just thought the camera in the Moto 5 was meant to be ok. I'm getting the impression ye don't think so.

if I'd known that Tesco were going to offer the s3 at a good price I might have been tempted. But im glad I went for the moto g - everything works, it has lots of room for apps, no bloatware, the sensitivity for gsm reception, WiFi, and Bluetooth is excellent, better that my Xperia, and the GPS locks on to satellite pretty quickly, much much faster than the heap of crap Xperia did. I'm happy enough with the camera - that wasn't my main concern when choosing.
