    Hi there, I am traveling to the Dominican republic on December 27th for 11 days, and my passport is only valid until May 29th 2015, I am wondering will I be stopped from entering as it is not valid for 6 months from my date of return? I'm getting fairly mixed information for the internet and we have no embassy over there. I'm told that I 'should' be ok as long is its valid for at least twice the amount of time my stay is for

    might be an idea to apply for a new passport - if you haven't left it too late

    Might be more beneficial to go to official sites rather than the above.

    What is required from foreigners entering the Dominican Republic?

    All foreigners entering the Dominican Republic with either a Visa or a Tourist Card must hold a valid passport, unless existing agreements of passport exemption with the Dominican Republic are in place.

    From here http://www.dgii.gov.do/tarjetaTuristica/EN/Support/faq/Paginas/default.aspx

    My reading of this is that your passport just needs to be in date, no need for 6 month validity.

    Yup one of the few countries that have maintained the 6 month rule.

    From the embassy in the UK;

    Thanks folks, bit of a tricky one

    Uk Gov says its ok (for uk passport holders) Think i better apply for the quick turn around one anyway, better safe then sorry.

    I would disregard the FCO's advice on this as I have found it to be incorrect in the past esp on this requirement.

    It's odd though that the Dom Rep Embassy website and their official Government site give conflicting information.

    If I were you I would contact the Embassy to remove all doubt. Also keep a record of any correspondence with them in case of difficulty with the airline or immigration when travelling.

    Rather than going to the expense would it not make sense to just ring the embassy in London?
