Browsing for a new car...

I'm having a look around at the moment for a new(ish) car to replace my Skoda Octavia automatic 1.9 TDI estate. It's got a failing torque converter, (thread here) I've yet to get a quote for a new or reconditioned TC and am contemplating just driving it until it fails as replacing it may not be worth the time, money and hassle. Budget will be determined by the bank but I'd say no more than €10,000 and the car has to be an automatic diesel.

So I was browsing on DoneDeal and came across a 2008 Octavia Elegance that seems too good to be true mileage-wise: http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/skoda-octavia-1-9-tdi-elegance-auto/7869107

First impression is what's wrong with it? DSG knackered? Anyway of confirming the mileage, it seems ultra low for a 6 year old car and am wondering if it's been doctored? Yet to ring the dealer to see if it's just a typo and is missing a 1 at the start :D Pain in the ass it's in Donegal as I'm in Co. Cork, would love to have a look.

Suggestions welcome too, ideally the car would be from 2008 up and has to be an automatic diesel. Mileage would be a concern too. Won't be looking to buy until Jan/Feb next year so keeping an eye on prices now to see if I can pick up a bargain in the New Year.

Reconditioned or a new unit? Any recommendations for an automatic transmission specialist to have a look at my car just to be 100% sure it is the TC?

and what, say €500 for labour not to be forgotten :)

still probably cheaper than the €10k cost to change mind you :pac: but will it really make the difference to the trade in price/ scrap value of the current car?

I hope so! The judder is very noticeable when warmed up as is the surge when cold, especially going uphill and on small inclines. I'm hoping to trade the car in so to a dealer the car might be worth reselling if it's in good mechanical shape. I've a friend who's a mechanic so I'd get mates rates there, only thing is he's not all that familiar with auto gearboxes. That said, I'd imagine swapping a torque converter wouldn't require any specialised knowledge?

Anyone got any comment on the car I spotted on DoneDeal? :p
