    Can anyone tell me what is involved in a potential employer performing a background check.
    What information can they access ?
    Can they access soft information ?

    Are you going to work for the CIA or a Call Centre.

    Anything that has ever been written about you is discoverable. Social media is a gold mine.

    Generally whats used is Experian which has limited access to Irish data because we don't have the same sort of credit referencing they do in the UK.

    Expect the CV to get a good going over, educational establishments and previous employers to be contacted. Criminal record checks are unlikely but bear in mind undisclosed criminal records can be grounds for immediate dismissal if discovered later.
