    I know how you feel.
You could visit Cork City! It's actually feelling and looking quite festive with the food market and ferris wheel etc. No detectable depression.

But to answer your question seriously...
    - try your local travel agent. I saw a week's package Canary Is. for €399 a few days ago. Depart Dec 19th
    - I bet there are lots of deals on trips to The Gambia. Maybe via London
    - a few weeks ago I was considering Dublin-Marrakesch myself; €30-€80 each way. Agadir and Essouiera not far away for beaches.

Thank you! I might take a trip to Cork! Ferris wheel you say?

Yeah, a Ferris Wheel ! (not the London Eye, mind) - and a carousel!

Never mind cous-cous, tajine and fresh orange juice in the night market in Marrakesch's Jemma el'Fna try Barracuda or Wok 'n' Roll in Cork's christmas food market while waiting for your turn on the Ferris wheel.

Then take a stoll down Oliver Plunkett, for a leisurely pint in the Long Valley or An Brog (depending on your age ). Or cross the river to sample the local brews (stout, ale, cider) in the Franciscan Well micro brewery.

    Then maybe some culture?
Cut across Patrick Street to the Crawford Art Gallery to see the Jack B Yeats painting(s) (free entry)
Or maybe drop into the charming photographic exibition of old Cork in the Vision Centre (Another old church, free entry) on North Main Street just a few blocks away.

You may be able to fit in a film at the Triskel Art Centre (fabulous restored church ) Showing "Ida" and "Leviathan" this week - two of the top ten films of 2014 supposedly.
Nah, the plot lines are too bleak and depressing. We 're seeking festive escapism. The live music later sounds more appealling.
But I might just have a quick browse in the Triskel record shop. Look! Led Zep IV on vinyl for €20 in pristine condition. What a great xmas present - for someone with a record player obviously!

Maybe time for a meal or a coffee? Electric Bar and Restaurant, a stone's throw from the wheel on the river bank. Or Jacobs Restaurant early bird for fine dining, a hundred metres further on Suoth Mall.

Just a quick bite instead? The English Market of course.
There's the entrance across the road. A bowl of soup in the Farm Gate or a hot dog with O'Flynn's gourmet sausages. Sample a few free olives guiltily at the Real Olive Company stall as you pass.
What a selection of fresh food. You can get anything in here. What is that in the butcher's display?! "Tripe and drisheen" - jeez, I don't want to know. Move on quick! Ha! look at that photo. Even Lizzie QE2 shops here. She's a big fan of Cork too I hear.

Wow! You are great! I think I'll come on Tuesday! I can also check out any physical travel agents Cork has to offer!
But we had a ferris wheel here in limerick for a while, and I went down to admire it, but couldn't get anyone to go on it with me. I'll be alone in Cork and I won't have the balls to go on alone. Also, pint? Not able alone!!

Jeez, coming down here, copying our funfair ideas and grabbing our budget holidays deals!
Have a fun visit. (Er .. I'm not sure if the street food market is weekends only.)

Solitary drinking: I suggest the Long Valley; always welcoming to the solitary oddball or curmudgeon reading the paper at the bar.
