For me it was when I was in a bus shelter in Breda, south Holland, alone and homeless

That time Buzz and Neil headed down to the moon, left me to make the tea on Apollo 13...

Only joking- We were actually in a film studio in East Hollywood!

The time I was in Chicago, and lost all my mates at Lollapalooza and was too drunk to remember where/how to get to the hotel and slept in a park with some pigeons.

At 15 years old, coming back from the hospital, going to my mother for a hug, and she pulled away.

The good thing about it is, I have never again felt that alone in my life, not even on the day I went into a women's shelter.

Feeling alone doesn't have to be a bad thing!

Best/worst most alone I've felt was probably wandering around Washington DC having conversations with all the homeless people being kept on the edges of the national mall. Had absolutely nothing better to do and was basically after hitting an all time low so I didn't want to be left with my own thoughts. I just wandered around talking to people about AIDS, contraception and how much homeless people get laid for hours, was in a ridiculously positive mood by the end of the day.

A lot of the more repetitive farm work can be really nice in its own way but is completely ruined by someone else being there. I've had some great times knowing that I'd just be spending the next 6 hours shovelling ****e without having to deal with another person in the world. I remember one day about a fortnight after my dad died where I volunteered to head over and clear out some sheds that were in a state, spent the whole day there by myself and felt completely cut off from the world. After having to deal with visitors and other obligations non stop for weeks, it was absolutely wonderful.

...eh, not exactly the two cheeriest examples but I enjoyed them and that's all that matters.

    I love being alone.:)

I even love being alone in a crowd.

I don't get why people don't like it.

I do like people too. It's just i need to get away.

I'm sure the OP means alone as in lonely.

E.g. You can be by yourself watching a film and feel happy as can be. And you can be in a crowd of friends and family but feel totally on your own.

It's a state of mind, maaaan.

The most alone I've been is when I climbed a little way up a cliff when I was a kid and didn't think I could get down.

“A man can be himself only so long as he is alone; and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom; for it is only when he is alone that he is really free.” Arthur Schopenhauer

One is reminded of Montaigne; he strove to be apolitical; and he stoned himself in his library; but the world came into him through the walls.

Similar ,going to a U2 Concert alone at Wembley stadium .I can deal with being alone and most times enjoy it ,but as that Concert finished i suddenly got this great feeling of loneliness .
Other times in my life the same feeling has come but usually lasts no more than a day .
As somebody else said already being alone and having a feeling of loneliness are two different things .

When I was 7 my mam arranged for my aunt to collect me from school as she had a dental appointment. Some stage during the day plans changed and it was arranged for my friends mam to take me to their place for a few hours.
But no one told me this, so when friends mam told me i was going with her, I said no, my aunt is coming for me, I'm spot on thanks.
Cue sitting on the school wall for 3 hours sobbing away to myself. It felt like it was way longer than it was.
School was locked up, no way of getting anyone to ring home or anything.

It was far and away the loneliest experience of my life, until another friend and his mam drove by and spotted me.

Alls well that ends well I suppose, but I was terrified of it happening again, gave my mam a right hard time over it.
