    Hi,

I passed my driving test this week. I understand that I can't drive alone just with a certificate of competency. But can I drive once I have a receipt from the NDLS? Because if the Gardai stop you you have 10 days to present your license and it should have come by then?

    Thanks x

This is straight from NDLS FAQ
What should I do while I’m waiting for my new card e.g. if I’m stopped by a member of An Garda Síochána and asked to produce my licence?
At present, customers can expect to receive their licence or learner permit within five to eight working days. After your licence has been processed you will receive a NDLS receipt as proof of application for your licence /permit. You are advised to keep this in your vehicle. If a member of An Garda Síochána asks you to produce a licence and your licence application is being processed, you will have an opportunity to produce your licence at a Garda station within 10 days.

There's no guarantee you will actually have the licence within 10 days though.

I saw that! I got my provisional fairly quickly though recently. I may ask the expected waiting time when I'm in. Thank you

The expected wait time is just an estimate.

Just keep the receipt in the car and if you're pulled produce within 10 days. If it hasn't arrived by then just make sure you let the Garda know. As per there guidelines you're fine to do it
