2001 Hyundai santa fe 2.0 petrol oil on spark plugs

New to this. Just brought a Hyundai santa fe 2.0 petrol. The seller did tell me that the head gasket had been a issue but he had it fixed. Drove back from buying it in Athlone to Sligo and it drove ok and did not use much petrol for a car of its size. Have noticed now a couple of things. I am going to list them below and if anyone can shine a light I would be greatful. Will just say the guy did say the plugs need doing which I guess he ment the spark plugs which I am going to do as well as a squeeky belt so changing the power steering and alternator belts. Ok,

When starting from cold in the morning on full chock there is a abnormal amount of smoke feom the exhaust, but it just smells of petrol not really like anything burning ie oil or anything.

When I am driving and the revs drop below 2000 rpm I get a loss of power (chugging) like the car is slipping or something. Trying to discribe this the best way I can.

I would to hear from anyone who might know, I did drive a diesel santa fe which did not seem to do this. Many thanks.
