    Hi,
I have a 2009 Opel insignia elite and normally goto the Opel dealer for my services.

But found out over last 3-4 visits that I am spending more for same problem.

I have changed 2 glowplugs this year and another one is on the way. The issue starts with a service soon msg on dash and I always get it after 2-3 weeks after last visit. I am given the dealer peace of my mind but he says the glowplugs are not servicable items and charges 70 quid to change (40 quid to plugin the Opel error code reader) and 30 quid for glowplug (14 material cost + labour).

I think there is an underlying issue he doesn't tackle.

Any indy in Dublin will be helpful.

There are four glowplugs in the engine, one per cylinder. Has the same glowplug been replaced more than once, or is it simply that the glowplugs have all aged at the same rate, and are now failing one at a time ? If you are replacing the glowplugs one at a time, then you have two more to go !!! You might as well do the last two together, and save on the diagnostic charge.

Those prices don't sound bad for a main dealer.

    Thanks lifer_sean

I suggested replacing all in first instance but the mechanic said that was not necessary as the chances they would all go are very low. But now I understand that all four need to be replaced. I will talk to him again and get the reminder changed in one go.

I think they're being genuine. My wife's had a remarkably similar issue to yours. Service indicator came on soon after a service, she brought it back thinking they just forgot to reset the service interval.

She was told it was one of the plugs, it's a common thing and it's not always necessary to replace them. I wasn't there but I think they just took it out, cleaned it or something and put it back in and told her to see how it goes. Has been fine since, touch wood.

Mine doing same thing, changed one earlier in year but dealer only charged 67 all in to change last time out, need to sort another one now. But out in country in Cork not that should make a difference in price.

Not a bad job so a independant. should be fine but they have been known to break in place which can add time to job.
