Hi guys, just got the keys last month to my new home.

I've been living with the parents up until now so no need to worry about the LPT.

What happens now with the LPT and the new home? Do I contact someone about it or just forget about it?

If you own the house you have to pay it. I definitely wouldn't forget about it. That would lead to penalties. Ring Revenue and they will advise you as to how to setup payment

Sorry I didn't mean totally forget about it, I meant they'll send me a letter in their own time and I don't need to contact them.

The date of ownership for liability for 2015 is 1st November 2014. If the house was signed into your name by this date I believe you will be liable, however there are exceptions for new buyers.

Speak to your solicitor as they will know the finer details of your case. Revenues website LPT section is quite comprehensive too.

Just to update we're not eligible to pay LPT until 2016. I was on the phone to them this morning as I completely forgot about it. We closed the sale on October 14th so I was sure we would be liable.

Apparently they'll be in contact with us next year for a valuation.
